Please make sure, some charge as much as $4.

It's $1 or less.

That's it. I tried the SA 8000 last June, July and August. My local
cable company (Time Warner) charged exactly the same for the SA 8000
as they do for *any* other digital box. $6.60 for the box, 35 cents
for the remote. Kind of stupid to itemize the costs since the box
can't be controlled without the remote, and the remote is worthless
without the box.

To all of you who are looking to TiVo because you really have no

choice....
If you are a COX customer, The Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 is now
available or coming soon. Other cable companies may have them or be

getting
them soon.
http://cox.com/newservices/
And
http://www.sciatl.com/consumers/Exp8000.htm
I picked mine up today and returned 2 TiVo's to the store I bought them

from
last week.
Cox in Las Vegas is limiting them to 1 per household. High Definition

units
should be out around the first of the year.

It has 2 tuners and records 40-50 hours. I do not believe it is

upgradeable.
Cost is about $15 per month including Guide programming.
It's a rental, so you don't own it but then you can upgrade to the latest
version as they come out.

---snip---snip---snip---

I too live in Las Vegas, but here's what it would cost me to rent/use the
Explorer 8000:

Digital Gateway fee: $5.00
Digital converter fee: $3.95 (yes... still charged even though it's part of
the 8000)
Remote control fee:: $0.22
Service (subscription) fee: $9.99
Additional sales tax: $1.39
Additional franchise fee: $1.03

Total additional charge: $21.58

I currently own 2 TiVos (with lifetime subscriptions) and have held off
buying a third one because I wanted to see what Cox would be offering, and
at what price.

Interesting. I heard from a Cox user here in Phoenix that it added only
$10 to his bill, since he had digicable already...
