They did not, nor did the Icelandic equivalent! The British treasury
compensated British depositors and have been attempting to recover the
money ever since.

Thus demonstrating that the compensation scheme
worked.


At the time it actually established that something was very wrong with
the compensation scheme it's funding and it's organisation.

I suspect that The British government stepped in nd paid out a small
amount to prevent the real risk of a run on the big UK banks.
