The BBC branded (so presumably licence fee funded) TV channel -- BBC Olympics --
is currently carrying a looping advertisement for Sky Sports subscriptions.

Tis nice to see a BBC station promoting Uncle Rupert's commercial services
from licence fee funded stations.

Is that on Freeview, Freesat, or what?

Where has this extra channel come from? Is it one that Sky is "lending"
to the BBC to use during the Olympics. Does the BBC even know that a
looping advert for Sky Sports is being shown?

The other day, when the Jubillee was on, the feed from some of the sources
was actually from a Sky helicopter, and this came via some resources on the
ground, and at one point when the chopper was not up I heard on the talkback
some person query why it had a sky advert looping on it and could the
studio get rid of it in case it got selected by mistake. I just wonder if
something similar happened here and as usual, nobody was looking at the
output.

Do you work for the Daily Mail? They are Sky's channels which the BBC
will be using *DURING* the Olympics so Sky can show whatever they want
on them. But don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Sky may be able to show whatever they want, but can the BBC legally
retransmit it?

where, or how, is the BBC re-transmitting it? It appears to be transmitted
from the Astra satellite on channels contracted to "the Murdoch empire".

So $ky can operate channels labeled as BBC
and even carrying a BBC Sports caption on the other
streams?

But don't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

Do not let the fact gets in the way of your childish
and trite response.

The fact that the channel is labeled as BBC Olympics
and that the other BBC streams are carrying BBC content
eg the BBC Widescreen Test card shows that the program
content is under BBC editorial control.
