What about the second paragraph in the sub-item at the bottom?
"If you currently watch TV through a cable or satellite
box....... your provider will handle the switchover for you."
Also, in the main text (top right para 3)...
"A number of areas in the south have yet to have their
transmitters turned off, but are EXPECTED to do so in the next to
weeks" (my emphasis.) No, they WILL be turned off - except that
they won't, only analogue.
Second comment above double proved.

Mind you it has to be said that DUK have a lot to answer for as
well. The information that they have been issuing - especially
when their so-called 'technical' people have been interviewed
(mainly on radio) - has been in the main confusing and/or
contradictory or just downright wrong. The move of ITV1 to the
old BBC2 frequency in the DSO1-2 period in some areas has
generally been totally ignored.

I can't find the online version on the Daily Mirror website for you, but
actually, the only severe bit of journalistic ********, is a picture of a
Group A contract Yagi, and the title, "GONE TO POT: Old style TV aerial".

I'm not convinced the disappearance of BBC2 analogue prompted all of the
30,000 calls, I suspect 90%+ were because *digital* BBC had vanished, and they
didn't know their DTT kit required a rescan and/or knew how to.

Although, with the move of ITV analogue to where BBC 2 was, I suspect there
are plenty of thickos thinking, 'blimey, BBC 2 is suddenly showing some good
stuff now' !

I was surprised that there were people on the MythTV mailing lists that
were caught out ... "All BBC channels gone, panic, panic" ... How can
you have the wherewithal to knock-up your own Linux PVR, yet be
oblivious to DSO and the implications?

Indeed. That annoying message which appeared for the previous couple of
months every time you switched your TV on, and wouldn't go away until
you pressed the blue button, was very hard to find.

More likely.

The move of ITV was a closely-guarded secret. I only realised it on the
3rd April.

I don't quite understand why they had to effect the switch in two phases
with a fortnight in between but if it was to alert digital ignoramuses [1]
(and refuseniks) I would have thought they would switch off a more popular
channel like ITV1 - especially as it's ITV1's analogue transmitter that was
(effectively) switched off.

[1] I know that 'ignoramus' is a bit strong, but I can't find a weaker word.
I've found the following synonyms:

blockhead, dimwit, dunce, fool, idiot, imbecile, know-nothing, moron,
numbskull, addlebrain, blunderer, bonehead, botcher, bumbler, butcher,
butterfingers, clod, clumsy oaf, dolt, donkey, duffer, featherbrain,
foul-up, fumbler, goof off, goofball, harebrain, incompetent, klutz,
mismanager, muddler, muffer, screw up, spoiler

- which are all rather strong. I wonder why there isn't a word meaning
someone who is only slightly ignorant about a specific matter and it isn't
really their fault?

Assuming there are no engineering reasons for doing it in two stages,
you want to switch off a channel that is sufficiently popular that
people will notice, but not the most popular one, as that will cause
more hardship. You probably also want to switch off a BBC channel, so
that it doesn't penalise commercial interests.

I don't know if the channel swap on ITV was deliberate, or just an
engineering consequence, but it would ensure that the maximum number of
those holding out on digital became aware, whilst preserving advertising
revenue.

But I suspect few actually *read* it, and absorbed the contents properly !

It was mentioned in some of the DUK literature, and
I mentioned it over six months ago, in this very group :-)

There is a very simple reason why this was not done -- it would
have affected the advertising revenue of the commercial TV companies
and this would not have been tolerated by the management or stockholders.
