He was obviously joking and I think those who have been jumping up and down and complaining need to get a sense of humour. Exactly -- we all need more jokes about people committing suicide and more jokes about rounding up the troublemakers and shooting them. Or why not just spray them in the face with pepper spray as that worked quite effectively in Oakland, CA? |

Of course the simple solution is to keep the intellectual stuff on BBC-2 like it used to be and keep BBC-1 for meaningless entertainment programs featuring Bruce Forsyth, Paul Daniels, Tom O'Connor etc. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

Will the intellectually challenged understand the phrase "intellectually challenged"? Probably not ![]() That was why I suggested such programs should not be on BBC-1. It worked in the past and the intellectually challenged would revolt at the mere suggestion of changing stations to BBC-2. Nowadays the schedule of BBC-2 is filled with mindless entertainment shows eg Flog It!, Trash to Cash, Escape to the Country, Strictly - It Takes Two etc. Of course the really serious stuff has now been moved to the digital ghetto of BBC-4 on Freeview LCN 9 and the intellectually challenged rarely get past 6 (ITV-2) so the problem has largely been solved in that respect. Digital refuseniks regard anything above "5" on their remote as "unnatural". |

I thought that was exactly who the programe *WAS* aimed at! In the case of "The One Show", that is indeed the case, although many viewers potentially in that group change stations for Emmerdale at 19:00h followed by Consternation Street at 19:30h, and then back to BBC-1 for Eastenders at 20:00h, which really does feature Easterners. "Yousef faces another obstacle with the arrival of his cousin Tariq." Eastenders got a big boost in potential audience when Channel 4 canceled Brookside. |

The BBC were not even allow us to know that Uganda is developing their own space programme, they only have to put an Iranian WMD on board and we're all doomed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7CTIIqx8LmU |

Clarkson's comment has already encouraged 21,000 TV views and several members of this newsgroup to get out their green crayons. Although if this is anything like Manuelgate, many of the complainers won't have seen/heard what they're complaining about. -- Martin Jay |

Should drive up the ratings for the next edition of Top Gear with people tuning in to see if he is going to make any further comments on the matter. It is a win, win, win situation for Clarkson and the BBC. |
