The Clarkson on screen (and espcially the Clarkson in his NewsInt columns) is a "persona", that happens to have the same name as the person playing it. Yes. He used to live in Battersea in the same street as a friend. Who said if anything he was positively shy, and very polite. Actually, he was pointing out that the selfish actions of a single person causes delays and inconvenience to thousands of people, not to mention the poor buggers that have to clear up the mess and the effect on the train driver. -- (\__/) (='.'=) (")_(") |

Roderick Stewart writes In article , Davey wrote: Did anybody else see it yesterday, and if so, what did you think? I'm sure the headlines tell everything worth knowing about this silly story, so I haven't bothered to read any of the rest. My reaction, probably the same as that of most sensible people was "Oh not him again" and "What's he said this time", before ignoring it and getting on with the rest of my life. Anybody who feels Deeply Shocked And Offended at Mr Clarksons most recent demonstration of tosserdom should simply go to YouTube and search for "Jeremy Clarkson in a Microwave". It won't change a thing, but it'll make you feel a lot better. Rod. He has a new DVD to sell. Shows like that can "discuss" as many social/topical issues as they like, but they're just vehicles for celebs to sell stuff. How many interviewees on popular chat shows have nothing to sell? I'll bet the answer is somewhere around zero. -- Ian |

Clarkson has long been the token right wing voice on the BBC, but they gag him when it suits them. So much for free speech. You've a very strange idea of 'right wing'. Those who consider anyone should be shot without trial are nutters with no brain cells - not just a variation on normal opinion. I read it the first and second times. And hopefully not forgotten it by now. Repetition aids the memory. ![]() I have no idea, as I don't have HD reception. Ye have to be careful broadcasting to the lowest common denominator demographic. A simple announcement announcement solves the problem -- "The following program contains material unsuitable for those less than 16 years old and those who are intellectually challenged." Along with a logo showing a brain in a red warning triangle. Of course the simple solution is to keep the intellectual stuff on BBC-2 like it used to be and keep BBC-1 for meaningless entertainment programs featuring Bruce Forsyth, Paul Daniels, Tom O'Connor etc. |

It's sad that those who commit suicide have no thought for others. This is due to the circular connundrum that many of those who commit suicide tend to commit suicide because they think that others have no thoughts for them. Explain the very old skit on 'Not the Nine O'clock News' where a lorry driver slaps incrementing stickers on the side of his truck door for every hedgehog he ran over? Funny, but the animal rights mob offended? But that was making fun of the fact that some truck drivers have no concern for others on the road. Yup, however I do cynically wonder if actual calls on those helplines are analysed for future soap story lines... Why do you think they have the helplines in the first place? ![]() |

The issue was the first question raised on Question Time last night, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b017zqmd/Question_Time_01_12_2011/.
