So a freeloader as far as the BBC is concerned Are all the people who watch BBC World freeloaders? Are all the people over 75 years of age who watch the BBC state TV services freeloaders? Do they have no right to express opinions about the BBC state TV services because they do not pay for a TV receiving licence? |

It is in your view that the *purpose* is to encourage sales. That is the only reason any of the guests go on chat shows nowadays -- new album, new book, new movie. |

That is the only reason any of the guests go on chat shows nowadays -- new album, new book, new movie. Not these days - it was near always the case. The only way such shows could get *real* stars etc to appear - they couldn't afford the normal fees. B list celebs turn out for the opening of a crisp bag. So the alternatives are no such shows, or as they are. Personally it doesn't bother me as I don't watch them. And I'm surprised so many on here do and with such fervour. But I do watch Top Gear. ;-) However, a decent example of a review programme where the artist appears to plug a record, book or show etc is Front Row on R4. Some absolutely fascinating interviews on there - without the need to 'play' to a studio audience. -- *If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done? But those sort of chat shows got reduced to the lowest common denominator like so much else. Which is strange considering the audience figures he got. Perhaps it's the audience which has changed. -- *Do they ever shut up on your planet? Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
