As a recent purchaser of a Samsung LCD, I was able to find exactly that information on the web within a day of casually searching for it. Your desire to keep a closed shop of knowledge in the days of the internet is nothing more than an attempt to **** against the wind. With some sets its possible to bollix up the data in the EEPROM so as to make the set inoperable. How would you do that using the service menus? Or do you have some other method in mind? Years ago I discovered how to put my 8mm Canon Camcorder into service mode, it was simply a pad on the remote control PCB that had no corresponding button. No intervention on the camera itself was required. I experimented with various settings, recording the original values of course. Many of the settings had the potential to effectively brick the camera. Can you explain how you knew this (*without* doing so to find out too late) and give an example or two? I am genuinely interested. IIRC You also would have had to dissasemble or physically alter the remote to access this. Is that correct? My curiosity is because Ian seems to be reporting an example where no such physical change or dissassebly may be needed. I can't tell, though, if he insists on not giving any details about what he has claimed. There aren't many details to pass on - Hitachi UK go much further than merely unhelpful they are actively as obstructive as possible! |

Electronics http://www.st-and.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scot...o/electron.htm Armstrong Audio http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/Armstrong/armstrong.html Audio Misc http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/index.html Sorry for not replying sooner Jim, I just rediscovered this thread. I can't remember what prompted me to open the R/C, perhaps I had spilt coffee over it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/g3zvt/5679434239/ I was intrigued to find a secret button, so I experimented, you can see the red wires soldered to the corresponding row/column of the matrix. The camera no longer works, the manner of its demise indicative of the failure of one or more of the many surface-mount electrolytics. My attempts at repair were unsuccessful but any suggestions of likely specific components on the Canon E200 gratefully received as I have many hours of 8mm tape that requires digitising. The service menu options revealed had no English descriptions, just a row number and operand IIRC one adjustment I remember seemed to set the sensitivity of the CCD and was adjustable to the extent of rendering the camera only able to output blacks & syncs or peak white & sync at the other end of the range, a little like the beam control on a vidicon camera. I said *effectively* brick the camera. As long as you have access to the service mode you could AFAIK change the parameters back to how they were, but I wasn't being too cavalier with my then prized possession, in case it was possible to do damage or lock myself out! -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |
