How dreadful.

It is, I'm very disturbed to discover I live in a town that resembles
Lowestoft.

At least Basingstoke doesn't smell of rotten fish.

Do you know that for a fact?

Yes, I've spent some time there. The only time I smelt fish was when I
was sitting next to an unkempt woman in a disreputable town centre pub,
when we were on a fact-finding mission. The woman, I hasten to add, was
not one of our party.

And Lowestoft doesn't (yet) have so many roundabouts.

If they'd really wanted to give the airport (ex RAF Finningley) an

called it Wellington Bomber Airport. We don't get many Germans round
here so it wouldn't have upset anybody.

Gosh, they could even have called it Finningley as a tribute to the
fighters.

I guess the locals call might call it Finningley anyway?
Like we call Bristol "Lulsgate", or when I lived in: Manchester it was called
Ringway; Leeds it was called Yeadon; Nottingham it was called Castle
Donnington.

Ah yes, Lulsgate, where the runway goes uphill and then down a bit

Was it on the Kingston By-Pass?

Yes you're right. Any idea why? Did he go there on his days off?

Was there a Robin Hood pub there - or was the pub demolished to make way for
the roundabout?

Oh yes, we were 'Doughnut City' during the peak of CB Radio's popularity.

There's a Robin Hood roundabout on the Newbury - Reading road, named
after the pub.

Mind you I haven't been there for a while, so it may be gone.

Wickersley near here was Shakeytown because of the frequent earth
tremors. Then of course there was Penistone.

It does that at Filton as well, where I was earlier. Sadly not for that
much longer now they're shutting it. Concorde 216 looked very sad shrouded
in what looked like some sort of scaffolding as far as I could make out
from the road across the other side of the airfield...
