Obviously everything will have been updated since I last went shopping
but my impression then was that Samsung had a marginally better
picture but matchbox sized squeakers, I mean speakers, would only have
been worthwhile plugged into a decent audio system.

LG picture was only marginally worse but sound was an order of
magnitude better.

Philips spit use LG screens, do Sony still use Samsungs?

Looking to get something of 32" (would like 37" but a bit pricey and
energy-guzzling).
Been looking on Richer Sounds, JL (for 5-year warranty) andhangs head
in
shame Tesco.

Which is the make that's likely to give the least trouble? I'm sure that
some makes can be unreliable.

Well, decided against the LG as many places have run out of them and
Richer
Sounds had 1 in the shop and 0 in the warehouse, couldn't let me see it
and
couldn't deliver!

The major question now is: 32" or 37"?
My distance from the screen is 11' (~3.3m) and I don't want to see the
pixels in SD. I've no experience of the difference and no way of getting a
test, so opinions please.

So, it seems Panasonic time. The TX-L32D25B looks good

Panasonic TVs use a nasty ad-supported EPG for Freeview.

http://www.johnlewis.com/230962553/Product.aspx

having Freeview and Freesat HD built in, then I also like the Samsung
UE32C6510, although it doesn't have Freesat, as it seems to get a better
rating for SD - that's important as HD is a bit rare atm

http://www.johnlewis.com/230950656/Product.aspx

It's also a white surround so wouldn't stand out so much.

Samsung or Panasonic? Help!

What about the Sony Bravia?

The Sony/Sharp panels in the higher range Bravias are about the best around.

Thing is, sound's easy to improve, but if the picture's poor...!

Ont thing that does appear to have changed is that there aren't many
"poor" pictures nowadays, just several that are less than stellar.

If 3D is now going to reverse this, well I don't want to bother.

Same here - it's immature technology and likely to cause problems.
Even HD is bad enough - the thought of one of those shots where mouth full
of food is almost full frame (why do they do that?) at 60" in HD /and/
3D...!!

Visited Panasonic, Sony and Samsung dealers over last few days.

Only Panasonic now do brochures. Sony stated their websites provides
everything you need to know.

Yesterday I was impressed by the Samsung UE32C530U in JL but their
price is very expensive. Bumped into an ex-work friend there, who
reckoned the Philips 32PFL9705 had the best flesh tones he'd ever
seen. I had to agree, but the £1,300 was a no-no.

Today I saw a Samsung UE32C6620 in Richer Sounds and wondered how it
compared with the above Sammy. There is no mention of it on their
website! Why - evidently it's been available for a while?

We're always being told to feed the audio through an amp and decent
speakers for good results. Several models I looked at only had
optical output. Scarts are also disappearing from the latest models.

You need a brochure to get this information.

Yes, the Samsung does look good, even alongside a similarly spec'd
Panasonic.
As for the Philips - when I win the pools...

Looking at many reviews and prices, yes JL is expensive but have the 5-year
warranty. The other 'cheaper' sites seem to get some v. poor reviews for CS
and, although offering free delivery, then want from ~£120 to £220 for what
is in effect an extra 3 years.
There's also the aspect of service: I trust JL but not other dealers
(although Richer Sounds would be OK).

Today I saw a Samsung UE32C6620 in Richer Sounds and wondered how it

Apparently 'C' is this year's letter; JL had a 'B' on display in MK.

I suppose that the SCARTs are going due to the inbuilt tuners; the audio
connections are intended for 'home cinema' setups nowadays.

You can usually download a PDF of the user manual, which gives more
information than most brochures.

Out of casual interest I looked on the Samsung UK website for info about
the UE32C6620. No results. The nearest I could find is the UE32C5800.

The only result with "C6620" in it is a mobile phone.

The numbers on the site don't exactly match those in, say, JL. I assume it's
because there are minor regional variations that govern the number in a
retailers but have no relevance in the spec. or manual.

32C66 gives a suggestion but any additional digits don't.

I looked for one and got suggestions for models with a letter difference as
I went - UE was UK - and it seemed to be the same thing.
