Are you sure the back bedroom isn't in your 32" Loewe Aconda? The
sizes can't be much different.

you should have seen the fun and games getting it in the house, and then
getting it out again when i moved - my parents refused to ever touch it
again!
but it's only 80kg was my reply.....

My Sony 36" CRT weighs 100kg, I'm not looking forward to moving it when
it finally dies.

Thanks.

This post instantly rang a bell. My thoughts:

On Monday my excellent nine year old 24inch Panny CRT refused to power
up. On switch-on the relay clicks, then drops out after a few seconds
Had a look inside, no bad smells nothing obvious, A web search
revealed, '.. change IC47, C66, C67, C202, R244 TR23... etc etc so I
eventually accepted defeat.

A couple of hours later- I visited John Lewis and have to admit that
some of their pricier TVs had outstanding pictures. That said the
standard definition on most larger sets was average at best.

My previous experience of HD was at a couple of friend's houses, both
of whom admitted their SD picture was more watchable. I agreed.

Decided you probably need to spend at least £450 on a 32inch model to
get that above average HD picture.

I felt the best pictures were the Sonys, but reviews tend to knock
them with 'great picture, but narrow angle, and everything else is
mediocre'. Like Panasonic they are expensive.

Felt a 26inch would do but they are generally low-spec compared with
the larger models (Who needs 1080p on small sets?)

Now the problems begins - which one?

The LG website reveals that their range currently consists of 72 TVs
Today I purchased a copy of 'What Plasma /LCD TV' and it describes 38
of these - none are 'LD' models which are freely obtainable.

I went to LG, Sony and Samsung's websites and found it impossible to
download a brochure. Panasonic was easy.

What I want to look at are lists of features - ticks in boxes. I want
to know why the LC32V1000 costs £150 more than the LC32H650 - the web
site describes them both as '...the perfect choice for the discerning
viewer who demands... etc etc.

It didn't use to be this hard.

Some lists of features are very poor - Richer Sounds' is one, where
everything is a question. There's also the list that has only the features
present, so that everything is ticked.

I managed to find the powers on Panasonic's and LG's sites. Pan. 37" is
about 140W and LG's about 83W.

RS has an LG 37" with HD Freeview and LED for £599; off to look at it
tomorrow and might well buy it :-))

Looking to get something of 32" (would like 37" but a bit pricey and
energy-guzzling).
Been looking on Richer Sounds, JL (for 5-year warranty) and hangs
head in
shame Tesco.

Which is the make that's likely to give the least trouble? I'm sure that
some makes can be unreliable.

I saw a Technica 32" in a pub and the picture was excellent but I'm
not too
keen on Tesco's brand/warranty.

There's this in Richer Sounds that looks OK on 'paper'
http://www.richersounds.com/product/...00/lg-32le5900

and being LED isn't too hungry.

Obviously I would go to see the TV before buying it, so what are the
main
points to watch for (I'm upgrading from a 24" CRT)

Thanks.

LG - perfectly good brand.

You want one that is full HD (1080p) with lots of connectivity.

We got one with Freesat HD in, but IIRC these only start 37"
(37LF7700), so try and get one with Freeview HD.

Richer Sounds' customer service is IMO excellent, they don't quibble
on warranties, and if they have one in stock they will set it up for
you (best to go when it is not too busy thought).

Talking of Freeview HD Mark, I read a few months ago that BBC1 HD was
starting in September, but since then not a peep, have you any info as
to when they will actually be coming on air?

I thought they said, starting in the Autumn, that gives them a bit of
leeway.

You're probably right, however I'm certain that I did read somewhere that it
was going to be sometime in September.

Whilst I was searching around I came across this little snippet, although
they may eventually have the capability, I wonder when or if it's ever
likely to happen?

BBC Studios and Post Production (S&PP) is upgrading Studio Six at Television
Centre in White City to what is thought to be the UK's first 1080p50-capable
studio.

Well, decided against the LG as many places have run out of them and Richer
Sounds had 1 in the shop and 0 in the warehouse, couldn't let me see it and
couldn't deliver!

The major question now is: 32" or 37"?
My distance from the screen is 11' (~3.3m) and I don't want to see the
pixels in SD. I've no experience of the difference and no way of getting a
test, so opinions please.

So, it seems Panasonic time. The TX-L32D25B looks good

http://www.johnlewis.com/230962553/Product.aspx

having Freeview and Freesat HD built in, then I also like the Samsung
UE32C6510, although it doesn't have Freesat, as it seems to get a better
rating for SD - that's important as HD is a bit rare atm

http://www.johnlewis.com/230950656/Product.aspx

It's also a white surround so wouldn't stand out so much.

Samsung or Panasonic? Help!

Panasonic TVs use a nasty ad-supported EPG for Freeview.

Personally I would go for a Panasonic 37" in your situation. The
TX-L37D28BS or the TX-L37V20B if you want Wi-Fi
