sat dish mounting query

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Noggin
saying something like:

Is it possible to install a dish at the back of south facing house?

Exactly the situation with one of my neighbours for exactly the same
reason.
The dish is mounted on a chimney stack which comes up at the back of the
rear roof slope and sees the satellite nicely. One could use a pole on
the rear wall, extending up to the same position - it's actually not
that high up.

Thanks for the inf, which has given us food for thought...especially the
bit about the fox widdle! (Relevent as my mate has seen foxes on the
outbuilding roof).
So basically he can just a sturdily fixed mats or put it on the shed
with appropriate fox defences! That might be a no-no because of the
distance involed, abou 30 yards and the cable can't go in a direct line.
