Once again, thanks to everyone for the input, at least I know now that it
was a problem with his receiver, perhaps the hard drive is beginning to
get a bit flaky?. time will tell. BTW I've noticed that IDE drives (from
my usual supplier Novatech at least) appear to be becoming rarer and more
expensive.

What not use a SATA drive?
Get one of these.

Good luck

Thanks Jim, but touch wood the Humax is apparently still working fine, also
the adapter adds circa £20.00 onto the cost of a new HDD, without any kind
of guarantee that it will work the same or as well as the original.
If all else fails it probably would be worth giving it a go, however having
said that I see a local discount store is selling a dual tuner 250 GB PVR
for £79.00, admittedly make unspecified, but I would imagine likely based on
some kind of Vestel clone, which would include a 12 months warranty.
Sad to say but irrespective of recession, it looks like when something goes
wrong with a piece of kit, in the majority of cases we're still locked into
a 'throw it away and buy a new one' society, for no other reason than it's
usually the cheapest option.

Incidentally, you can buy suitable replacement disks from Humax:

Well, next month you can throw away your 9200t, and buy the Humax

The cautious approach would be to encourage others to by it and report
their experiences.

No thanks, I have only recently bought the HD FOX-T2 receiver, which I have
to say I'm very pleased with, the HD quality is excellent and a very
unscientific test of mucking about with a Silver Sensor set top aerial,
appears to indicate that the T2 signal is a fair bit more resilient than the
now 'long in the tooth' DVB-T, by the fact that the HD signal hangs on
solidly when the PSB SD muxs have become unusable.
Now I'm just waiting for the promised OTA upgrade, which will allegedly
allow me to record to an external HDD, although if past form is anything to
go on then I will probably be waiting for a long time

As it will be as useful to me as a doorstop for the next two years, why
should I bother?
