Still a good product though, and I think there may be a free version

Thanks very much. Got a working MP4 video onto my phone first time. Now
I
need to improve the bitrates etc but exactly what I want!

My children thought it was great watching a video on my phone; my wife
was
somewhat less impressed. The generation gap no doubt :-)

Good stuff. I remember it did a good job in the past but DivX has
taken over for me at the mo.
I'm a generally lazy sod tho, if it works it works and I don't tend to
sod around with the bit rates etc.

The defaults are very low and it was like watching the "lego" version of the
film at times.

LOL. Yeah I know what you mean. What sort of phone are you watching it
on?
How big is the screen?

Nokia 5800. Small screen but reasonable resolution at 640x360 (16:9)

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Paul D.Smith"
saying something like:

Anyone rip DVDs onto their mobile (MPEG4-AVC, .mp4)? If so, what software
do you use (Windows only please)?

Google for SUPER - it's a fantastic freeby.

and, possibly, whether you are using one eye or both eyes.

It could possibly be something to do with the ability to share the
experience with other people. Once upon a time that's the way people used to
watch television.

I had a play last night and whacked the video bitrate up to 768 and the
audio to 192. Much better all round and remarkably watchable on such a
small screen.

I then got excited and wired the phone up to a 32inch LCD (the phone has TV
out!). Best I could say is that if I were trapped in a hotel room with my
children on a wet day, with nothing else to watch, they would probably watch
it. Very pixellated but I suspect this is more to do with expanding the
640x360 image to fill a 32 inch screen.

To give an idea of file size, a 1hr 40 DVD took about 700MB at these
settings. Not too back given I have an 8GB SDHC card an could, if I wanted,
put in a 16GB.

So an amusing diversion in case I ever need this.

Paul DS.
