Should have .. but they've done this before on rare occasions. IIRC there was one in Scotland that burnt out some Slot radiators on FM services which , well blazed merrily away till there was nothing left to burn!.. I'm sure that terror wrists wouldn't go to all that trouble to deprive people of Corrie somehow;!.. Cameron managed to deprive people of Eastenders and that caused much anxiety, anger, and resentment amongst viewers. http://uk.answers.yahoo.COM/question/index?qid=20100512031115AAJcTHt with numerous complaints to the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/response/2010/05/100512_res_bbconeschedule110510.shtml Meanwhile the fire at Beckley transmitter was the FOURTH item on Meridian [South] Tonight, but no technical details as to what caused the fire were mentioned. Awaiting to see what South Today (Oxford) will have to say, as it will only be available to viewers on cable, satellite, and IPTV, and not by regular terrestrial transmission. |

Probably no more than Radio Oxford have said this evening, which is no more than we already know. Though they did interview Arqiva's PR man, who said any news or updates would be placed at www.arqiva.com (Which would be a first !) -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

"J G Miller" wrote in message ... The BBC is reporting that TV and radio transmissions from the Beckley, Oxforshire transmitter are currently off air due to "an incident". http://news.bbc.co.UK/2/hi/uk_news/england/oxfordshire/8680692.stm Terrorists are not believed to have been involved, although the current terrorism threat level is * Severe * This means that a terrorist attack is highly likely. http://www.homeoffice.gov.UK/counter-terrorism/current-threat-level/ So stay alert, and watch out, there is a terrorist about. Is FM affected? I was driving up through Oxfordshire at that time listening to The Archers and then Steve Wright and it all sounded normal. I may have been handed over into Sutton Coldfield's care by the time the fire got serious. |

I may have been handed over into Sutton Coldfield's care by the time the fire got serious. I was tuned to Radio 4 Oxford (via the Basingstoke relay) 16:45 to 17:15, and no apparent problems. When I arrived home at 17:15 I saw the news on another forum. All national and local services FM are still running (I was tuned to Radio Oxford 17:20 to 18:30) but they do seem to be on reduced power. The pictures on the BBC Oxford TV news (3rd story) showed the feeders just below the main UHF stack to be on fire, not the stack itself. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

The report on BBC Oxford News was much better (as might be expected) than the one on Meridian Tonight. [Let that be a warning to those who wish further cuts on BBC Regional Television.] Although there was no in depth technical information, they did interview the senior Fire and Rescue fire fighter at the scene, and had shots of the actual fire on the temporary mast its-self. Concerns were expressed at the possible danger of the mast collapsing, and some are speculating that TV service (analog or digital) will not be restored for several days. A more expanded report has now appeared at http://news.bbc.co.UK/2/hi/uk_news/england/oxfordshire/8680692.stm Reactions from angry pensioners are now being reported in media outlets. http://www.oxfordmail.co.UK/news/yourtown/oxford/8165212.UPDATE__Transmitter_blaze__could_take_days _to_repair_/ QUOTE Don Morgan, and his wife Ann, both 73, of Jordan Hill, had been looking forward to watching Changing Rooms, but their TV cut off in the middle of Bargain Hunt. Mr Morgan said: “We have only got channel Five and we never watch that. It’s very annoying.” Anthony Dore, 65, and his wife Shirley, 60, of Southmoor, Abingdon, discovered their signal had gone when they tried to watch the afternoon news. Mr Dore said: “I usually watch the news in the afternoon, but when we got back there was nothing there. My wife usually watches the soaps, like Coronation Street and Emmerdale, in the evenings while I go out and walk the dog. She will have to come with me now.” UNQUOTE Will the multiplex operators get a refund from Arqiva for loss of service? |

Is FM affected? From what I have seen, I understand that VHF radio transmissions are still on the air but at reduced power. This has not been confirmed by official sources though. |
