I didn't have a torch and was incredibly dark, considering the place is surrounded by streetlights. Thinking about it now, I think it must have been a very clear night with little light reflected from the clouds. I'd been working in a room just off the tunnel, using the side of the pitch as the route to the van (in the car park). When I finished it had got dark, and I more or less felt my way to the big gate that was vehicle access onto the pitch, which of course was locked. So I groped my way back, and for a while I was stumped. I considered ringing 999 but in fact I found my way to where some sort of event was happening. Bill |
