they only have 525/60 at home Really? More like 720p / 1080i. From http://www.japaninc.COM/mgz_august_2008_hdtv QUOTE “The public and private sector cooperation has been such that ordinary Japanese people don’t necessarily think of HDTV as anything special,” says NHK engineer Kenji Terada, noting that 93% of Japanese households already receive HDTV broadcast signals ... UNQUOTE amd can't check problems with 625/50 broadcasts very easily. Yes, they must consider that other countries are still stuck in the dark ages of SD television. BTW what has this Japanese problem go to do with Humax, who are a corporation based in the Republic of Korea? |

Well, most of these are on the Hummy forums, but off the top of my head these are ones I have suffered from at some time, most common or irritating ones first: 1) Missing the start of virtually every programme and occasionally the end, despite claiming to have an "Accurate Record" feature. I don't have "Accurate Record" set, and (not for the first time) have returned home from a week away, only to find that one programme did not terminate, it simply kept recording until the disk was filled, thus missing all subsequent ones. OK, so it's just about how we define "trustworthy", then. Regardless of that, I agree with you that they should have given out more information and progress reports. It's not possible for us to say whether it took "too long" to fix. After all, we've no idea how difficult the problem was. Nothing on the DTG website for engineering downloads. Nothing on the Humax website. The 'Latest News' even includes an item from 30 June 2009. How difficult is it at least to pretend to have some interest in customers? They are clearly more interested in developing new product in the hope of extracting more money from customers. |

Frankly they should have been taken to court for marketing a seriously deficient product - pity some one did not have the time to prepare the case and have the money to back it up - they are taking us for mugs. I did a google today for info on the pace/philips pvr. There already appears to be a growing list of faults appearing on the avforums for it. I've decided to stick with my hummy for a bit longer. I think the 21 beta from April was better in terms of remote response time. That was as good as I've ever seen it whereas the current one is back to how it was before last September i.e. quite variable up to about a second, when pressing pause before the video stops. |

We have two Humax boxes, because my wife knew someone who had one and showed her haw to work it. They are both the most unutterably unfit rubbish. Even 5 Watts on any frequency from my Amateur Radio transmitter destroys the received picture. The permitted 400 W ? One's mind boggles. All five TV receivers are immune, as they should be by law. With the TV antenna passing through the Humax junk, even if it's switched off, the TV connected is unusable. All customary filters, ferrite applications and so on are to no avail.
Attempts to communicate with the makers are useless, it's like trying to deal with Micro$oft. A different PVR - with far better facilities - generates no EMC problems. |
