I don't think Brighton's got one.

Could that be because it's not a city?
This sums up what is and isn't a city in the UK:

As you'll see, it's an ever-changing set of circumstances!

It only depends on whether it has been officially designated as a city.

And Brighton has been. See:

which IMHO is utter crap. You dont want vast monolithic organisations,
you want stratification. Regional crime squads probably need to be
national crime squads, but the bobby on the beat needs to be YOUR
bobby, from YOUR patch in a station that isn't 40 miles away, that you
can talk to easily, cos he hangs out in the local pub.

You mean bring back the Police House so the village bobby lives in the
village and the estate bobby lives on the estate.

You may havwe something there. 40 years ago, this village had a resident
sergeant and a couple of PCs. Now we share a single (neighbourhood) PC
with 8 other villages with the police staion in another village but we do
have a PCSO shared with only 2 others. This is all about to change in that
our local police station about to close and the PC will move to the town.

yeah one of my neighbours is a PCSO, and if anything big happens she
knows which of the Real Police to call in, we still have a proper
Police station t'other side of town

Many years ago Reading was a County Borough. Then in the 1970's

doubtful if it will get it.

needs a cathedral first. Or possibly these days a mosque.

You most certainly used to, when I were a lad.

A relic of our Christian past I suspect.

Well you must be getting on a bit as the first city created without a
cathedral was Birmingham in 1889

Well I DID look it up.

Seems a city has always been by royal decree apart from a few that
always have been cities. But royal decree was not granted to places
without a cathedral prior to Birmingham.

According to

http://www.euthanasia.COM/netherlands.html

QUOTE

In 30 years Holland has moved from assisted suicide to euthanasia, from
euthanasia of people who are terminally ill to euthanasia of those who
are chronically ill, from euthanasia for physical illness to euthanasia
for mental illness, from euthanasia for mental illness to euthanasia for
psychological distress or mental suffering,

and from voluntary euthanasia to involuntary euthanasia

or as the Dutch prefer to call it

"termination of the patient without explicit request".

UNQUOTE

When the surviving parent has become too much of a burden
and the children need the inheritance money, you know it
make sense to call in the doctor and get the job done ...
