Hardly surprising, considering how much English is understood/spoken in
the Netherlands? Even to the extent of quite happily combining both in
the same sentence?

My first experience of this goes back to 1962 when I first heard such
things as "Dit is Veronica met the Drive-in Show".

Unlike the French, who absorb English expressions - mainly, I think,
because they are much shorter than the clumsy, elaborate French
expressions they replace - but then change the pronunciation to
something completely unlike the original, the Dutch maintain the
original pronunciation in all words they import.

For example, the letter 'J' is usually pronounced like the English 'Y',
but the exception is the word jam, which retains it original English
pronunciation ...
