Default BBC response to missing Look North

Dear Mr Wright

BBC One takes the decision to change its schedules very rarely and only
after careful consideration of the potential impact on its audiences. We
appreciate both positive and negative feedback on instances such as these.

One is where viewers come to enjoy great sporting moments of national
importance. Andy Murray?s match was one such occasion. From the outset it
looked like the match was going to be very close so we took the decision to
move it to BBC One as soon as we could and to stay with it right to the end
to ensure that the maximum number of people could enjoy this nail biting
game.

With this in mind please be assured that I've registered your complaint on
our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we
compile daily for all news editors and scheduling teams within the BBC, and
also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other
comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thank you again for contacting us with your concerns.

BBC Complaints

Word for word what they told me. Press the same buttons on the word
processor and the same tripe comes out.

As well as emailing the BBC about this last week, I complained by
phone. I received a phone call from them on Monday evening. The
person who phoned made the same points as above, but I did get the
opportunity to reply, though he probably put his handset on the desk
at that point. :-)

Hmm, well with all the channels now, surely they could have just put
up a caption and told folk where the tennis was. Seems a bit old
fashioned to assume that bbc 1 is where everyone would be. Has the
whole country been assumed to not know how to change channels all of a
sudden or what? Brian

It still amazes me that when a popular programme, soap or whatever, is
moved over to BBC2, it will typically get less than half the viewers than
it did on BBC1. Of course, 'hit comedies' need to move from BBC2 to BBC1 to
get a decent rating. I have often wondered if there are still people out
there who just don't know about BBC2.

I remember a 'posh' girl at school who's parents did not tune ITV onto
their telly as they thought it too 'common' and would only allow her to
watch BBC.

Two blokes hitting a ball over a net is of "National Importance"? Surely
not ;-).
But surely if you can receive BBC1, you can get BBC2 so why the need for
the
change and screwing up all the regional BBC1 programming?

Because events of National Importance have to be on BBC1 which is the
BBC's Flagship Channel showing programmes of National Importance such
as Casualty 1909, Cash in the Celebrity Attic, Songs of Praise and two
blokes hitting a ball over a net.

This is the BBC telling us what we should regard as priorities in life
in New Media Land.

Love this response - a nice smile at the start of the day!

As I've said elsewhere, standard reply. Just change date, channel,
event as necessary!

They don't seem to understand that some regional opt outs don't make it
to analogue BBC2. Channel Islands, for example, don't have analogue!

Also they seem to now have a problem keeping the EPG up to date, from
which PVRs get their start and end recording from....

Thanks for that! I feel better now.

Good.

Simple things...
You're easily pleased if you lend any weight to the BBC's stock reply.

Eh?! According to Digital UK, DSO begins Nov 2010. Perhaps you meant
that they don't have DTT?

It's almost worth writing to the Beeb, and making that point in pretend
innocence.

No AFD control for any local ARCs which may or may not exist, then. What
format is 16:9 content broadcast in?
