Who cares if a jogger can't pick up a signal using the headphone cable as an aerial? The jogger might care, if he wants to get good reception, but he doesn't want to attach a whip aerial to the top of his head. Joggers already look absurd, so an aerial on the head wouldn't detract. If jogging is so good for you, why do they all look so fat and knackered? |

UK manufacturers continued to use wing aerials "because that's wheer the stylist said they had to go" long after everybody else realised that roof aerials were better. I bought a SEAT in 1996 which had a wing aerial (UK spec) FM reception was horribly variable, so I had a roof aerial fiited and all was well. So my 1999 car with its trendy-at-the time rear wing aerial hasn't a hope with DAB? That's a pain, because there's so little content on VHF I was thinking about switching. After all the engine noise means I won't get a hi-fi experience anyway... Andy |

You lot are so anti-DAB it's bordering on a kind of religious fundamentalism. The reality is it has strengths as well as weaknesses. I don't see what's religious or fundamental about simply listening and making up one's mind, which is what I've done. I wouldn't describe myself as "anti" - just "indifferent", or "disappointed", because I had hoped DAB was going to sound good, but it doesn't, not to my ears. I never go to Scotland, but I'm guessing DAB would be just fine in the major population centres. |

We can safely assume you have no desire to learn about mobile DAB reception. Have you even got a car? I think the point is that broadcast systems are normally designed to work for the vast majority of receiving equipment, not just for the best equipment. My point was that just throwing a DAB radio into a car as a replacement for a factory fit AM/FM one is unlikely to work properly. With a properly engineered installation, round London, DAB gives better car reception than FM - as well it might since this is what it was developed for. Not that the anti-DAB evangelist seems to worry about poor FM reception that might effect others either. You're wasting your time with them. I've had a decent DAB setup with a proper aerial in the car for 3 years now and the reception is very good indeed. I've certainly never lost reception in a built up area, which is more than can be said of FM where multipath can make R4 virtually unlistenable in comparison. He who creams his pants over FM and makes it a life's work criticising DAB has proved time and time again that he wouldn't recognise multipath if it bit him on the arse. Probably because of the crap pop he only listens to. I've given an honest account of its performance over this time, but I'm practically called a liar. Of course. Anyone who doesn't agree with his micron thick views are obviously that. No wonder he can't get a job. -- *It sounds like English, but I can't understand a word you're saying.
