I can't speak for the owners, but the facts are that they bought the
radio station and chose not to buy the brand name. Presumably they
made a commercial decision that it wasn't worth it. They therefore had
a contractual obligation to re-brand by a certain date.


From what I remember the license to the name was only available for the
UK and would have prevented the international use the new owners were
wanting.

That must be because in foreign countries, "virgin" means "a girl who has
never had sex."
