Oh, and before the Vivas it was
Hillman Huskies but that was before my time.
So the quiz question is, who did I work for?

Granada Bedford used to have Huskies, yes?

Ah Bill, you being from Bedford must remember Carlow Radio? That's
where I did my 2 weeks work experience when I was 16. There telly
repair place was in St. Johns (near Ampthill Road bridge). It's all
being knocked down now :-(

The tower and a bit of a building at the base of it were still there
this morning, otherwise it is all rubble now. The sign says it has
already been sold for "development".

Marky, talking of Granada, as we almost were, I wonder if you remember
seeing the 2m dishes on the roof some years back?? I lowered a couple
off there with ropes at the back of the building, darn near changed the
spelling of Granada in the process!!

With me it was Vauxhall Vivas followed by Chevettes, Maestros then Astras
and I'm sure there was a Mini Metro (I kid you not) in there somewhere
when the company was strapped for cash. Oh, and before the Vivas it was
Hillman Huskies but that was before my time.

i.e. the TV you were carrying was worth more than the car - lol.

Think I just about remember them! Think I also remember a missing
letter in the big red Granada sign on the building. Wasn't you, was
it?

Bill, you've just won yourself a plastic Red Indian
and a portrait of PT Barnum.

Wow,
not sure how to express my excitement, so I won't!

The only reason I knew this was that my ex wife's ex husband worked
there and she had an ex Granada Husky, it was a great vehicle to
maintain. Not totally sure I would want one now as a co' car though.

Not sure that you understand the significance so I'll explain.
Every Granada venue had to display a portrait of PT Barnum
in much the same way as these days Company's display
their Mission and Vision statements I suppose Barnum
represented showmanship and perhaps a commitment to
customer service, anyway, we all thought it was ********.
The plastic Red Indian was a promotional give-away by
Red Arrow Services the forerunner of GTVR.
Occasionally you would see one proudly displayed
on a set you went to repair.

As I said I never drove a Husky, but the guys who did
were still talking about them years later.
Apparently you needed to put a slab of concrete
in the front to balance the load

I'm pretty certain that back in the 1960s there existed quite a large TV
rental company 'Atkinson'? in the Bristol area, their engineers drove
Hillman Imp vans, can anyone else remember them.. I can't seem to find any
reference on Google.

Hi Graham,
it rang a bell but I was not fully aware, sorry did not mean to
offend though.:-)
I can well understand the need for the concrete, all the weight was at
the back even when unloaded.
