I watch a lot of subtitled movies (due to only speaking one and a half
languages and not wanting to miss a butload of quality films) and do not
mind them at all - yet I dislike DOGs.

Why? - the subtitles are essential - you are SUPPOSED to have your
attention drawn to them.

I've never stated that there was any kudos from disliking DOGs nor
any
association with intelligence. My problem with DOGs in that they
are
useless and obscure some parts of the screen.

But it is only a minor part of the screen. The DOG appears in a
corner. You generally find that most of the action, and most
viewers, concentrate on what's going on in the middle of the screen,
not on the periphery.

Except where the action is moving across the screen, especially on old
programmes that have been 'ARCed' and thus what was once on the edge
of the middle of the screen 'action' is now towards the screen edge.

How would you cope if you lost your hearing and had to rely on
subtitles which obscure even more of the screen?

They are normally in the lower 1/8th of the screen, programme
directors have known that subtitles can be applied in that area and
those who compose the subtitles will be sanative to content that might
be within 'their' area, not withstanding people can choose and dismiss
subtitles. You analogy doesn't work.

If I don't want to receive a free commercial channel, I simply don't
watch it - no skin off my nose, as I don't pay for them anyway.

Oh no it's not, or are you honestly saying that you never buy anything
from the shops, you and everyone else pays for the free commercial
channels (even those who don't even own a TV), it's just that your
contribution paid at the shop tills.

Yes, when I buy thing I already wanted.

But not the products you *don't* want advertised though, you are
paying for those if you like it or not and you can't even make the
choice of getting rid of the TV - like you can if you feel strongly
enough about the TVL or indeed assuming you have a TV in the first
place, why should those who *don't* have a TV have to pay for ITV
etc?... At least the TVL gives you a choice, own a TV and pay or don't
own a TV and don't pay!

Indeed I'm not interested in DOGs; however I am engaging
people in conversation on the subject, including actual debates with
those, like Will Tingle, willing to play ball with the appropriate
level of maturity.

I'm glad someone's noticed - as one of the (very) few anti-DOGger here
who isn't a total ****, I was worried that I was going to get tarred
with the idiot-brush.

Another anti-DOG point that no-one has made yet, is that your TV (and
the DOG with it) light up - your wall paper, book case and other things
people have tried to compare to DOGS - do not.

Aggy's entire actions define him as a crank. That's why the BBC
responded as they did. He's lucky they even replied.
I am not a crank. My complaint to the BBC about on screen clutter
(worded very politely) received a similar reply.

So stop watching BBC Three. It's only telly.

How do you know that he wasn't complaining about the screen clutter at
the bottom of the screen found on News24?

If you're going to contribute to a thread, at least remember the thread
of conversation.

I'm bored with this now.

Socrates taught his students that the pursuit of truth can only begin once
they start to question and analyze every belief that they ever held dear. If
a certain belief passes the tests of evidence, deduction, and logic, it
should be kept. If it doesn't, the belief should not only be discarded, but
the thinker must also then question why he was led to believe the erroneous

If you bought a book and found it had torn pages, would you be placated by
having it pointed out to you that only the corners had been torn?

Rod.
