Buy the dearest one you can - cut off the cable and discard it. Replace it
with electric kettle mains cable. This will improve the picture, and the
sound, and the coffee will be wonderful.

Hello,
is there a big diff. in quality between HDMI cables?
I do find some cables at 10 euro for 1.5m and cables at 99 euro for 1 m.
lenght.
I do need a good HDMI cable to connect a full HD TV with a HD VCR with
hard disk.
What are the points that I have to look for.
regards Dirk

As OPs have said - it's digits so it works or it doesn't...

Except when going long distances.

10m or 15m HDMI cables are very fussy.

I'm running HD1080 (over DVI/HDMI) using a 9 x 9 DVI matrix switcher
and cable quality on the long runs is critical.

Approx 60% of the 10m cables supplied are no good and cause 'sparklies';
Some cables start out OK and go sparkly after a week.

It appears that the construction of individual cables (twist rate, crimp
or solder quality?) varies enough to cause problems.

Drop to HD720 and they are nearly all (95%) OK.

So hi res + long run can give problems.

I've not had any problems at all with 5m runs or less.

I got my AV supplier to provide a big bag of 10m cables and we went
through them and selected the best of the bunch.

Cost ruled out using optical fibre extenders in this case.

Not exactly. You can get sparkies with SDI, usually caused by a duff
BNC.

It's quite likely that a high bit rate un-error corrected signal sent
down a longish not very good cable will have the odd bit error that
produces a visible effect.

especially if there's an impedance mis-match somewhere.
