ABC- 720p
ESPN- 720p
FOX - 480p (projected to go 720p this fall)

CBS- 1080i
NBC- 1080i
PBS - 1080i
HBO-1080i
SHO -1080i
INHD -1080i
HDNET- 1080i

Possible local FOX may upconvert 480p to 720p/1080i.
Local ETV/PBS here has considered 720p; no idea if they will/can switch.

You forgot the Warner Bros network
WB - 1080i
and UPN - 1080i

Currently, the UPN-network has the fewest HD-capable affiliate stations.
And no one watches their stuff, anyway...

I think CBS or ABC have the most # of affiliate stations capable of
passing the network's HD-signal.

do we have to keep putting the set or the cable box into a different

No, those are just the formats that are transmitted to your box. You can
just leave it at 1080i to your set.

I've heard it said that some "experts" say you'll have a better picture
if you set your box & TV to also use the same format as the one that's
transmitted, but a lot of sets (including mine) don't support 720p. You
can give it a shot if you like & see if its noticeable.

Well, for the trekkie geeks, UPN does have Enterprise in HDTV... Frankly,
it looks pretty good in HDTV (the opening credits are fantastic.)

It really does look excellent. I think it's the only show I watch on UPN.

But which affiliates are actually passing the HD signal? Is that the
affiliate's choice or a network mandate ?
And if the affiliate does pass that signal and you receive that station as
part of Dish Network's locals, will it actually be in HD ?

I get UPN / Enterprise via Dish Networks superstations. Does that mean
they'll be in HD ?
