"Bill Wright" wrote in message ... My five year old grand daughter wants a telly for her birthday. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of five year olds having tellys in their bedrooms, the telly has to be chosen. She has given me the following specification. 1. It must be pink 2. It be capable of receiving CBeebies and CITV. 3. It must include a DVD player. 4. It must be a nice flat one like Grandad Temper's one in his bedroom (that's the other grandad). From this I deduce that we are looking for a 14" LCD IDTV with a DVD player. Pink? I might have to explain that pink isn't possible. Ah she didn't specify widescreen then? Children are not easilly fooled by garbage. Guys, help me. What is there on the market? Bill |

Ah she didn't specify widescreen then? Children are not easilly fooled by garbage. Have you noticed the new clutch of Sat-Navs are widescreen? Why? I mean you want to see where you are going, not what's to your sides. I'm with you on this one. -- Graham %Profound_observation% |

"harrogate3" wrote in message ... And two, by the time she's out of uni I'll be well past it. Bill or dead? Well yes. I'm 58. Last week a good friend who was not much older than me dropped dead unexpectedly. Robbed of his well-earned retirement. It's very sobering. I don't know . . . My dad's 88 and he sometimes muses about mortality. But the odd thing is, he's very fit and he could well reach 100. I'm far from fit, and when he's 100 I'll be 70. Now to be realistic I don't expect to reach 70. So he might bury me, rather than the other way about. A strange thought and I hope it doesn't happen because it would upset him unbearably. We're very close and no-one should have to stand more than one shattering berevement. He never got over losing my mother. I realised when Hil first had cancer that it was no good us just working our balls off in the expectation of enjoying a long and happy retirement. It might not happen. So I slowed down a bit, and since then I've slowed down more. We try to have a bit more fun. To be honest, now I look back I think I was killing myself with work. I feel so much better now. If you're young, my advice is, live for the moment. Grasp firmly every opportunity for fun and laughter that comes along. Have all the booze, sex, and holidays that you can get your hands on. Do a few reckless things. Yes, you need to work, but don't let work take over your life. Keep it in proportion. We're a long time dead, and the sad thing is that many of us don't realise that until we're on the edge of the grave. Bill |

I could do with a bigger screen altogether on the sat nav in one of my vehicles. When you drive a truck the thing is too far away from your eyes. To me the most astonishing thing about Tom Tom is the lack of mapping for the Irish Republic. Bill |

What you can do is run some satnav software on a laptop and stick that on the dash, or find a PDA with a video out to feed to a monitor on the dash somewhere, or even stick a full blown PC in there somewhere. To me the most astonishing thing about Tom Tom is the lack of mapping for the Irish Republic. I've never been to Ireland. -- Regards, Stuart. |

I take it you have seen those fresnel lens magnifiers for small TVs? ;-) To me the most astonishing thing about Tom Tom is the lack of mapping for the Irish Republic. Which map are you using? Try finding a postcode in the republic...... Doc |
