Yes! It saved more than GBP20 as I already had the spare Freeview box
from when I upgraded the main set to a pvr.

I don't know, the artical I was reading was about a tuner ic capable of
doing all of the processing needed to decode digital signals
and it stated that it was being used to meet the requirement for HD Digital
tuners to be fitted to all tvs.

I was struck by the - err - uncompromising nature of the phrasing. A
quick google hasn't got me back to anything definitive in French, but
based on the reports I've found in English, I think the statement
needs qualifying to read: "all *high-definition ready* tvs sold in
France from December must contain a high-definition tuner".

I have also read words to the effect that implementation will depend
on the co-operation of the manufacturers.

switch on date of several phases.

Indeed. Ultimately it was Sky's anti-competitive refusal to provide a
CAM that stopped them.


Not following here, it is OK to have Sky Boxes without CAM slots, but put a
SKY box into a TV set and it got to have a CAM.

Well, I don't know of anyone until now who has used the term 'audio
display devices'. But if they did I'd expect them to either be talking
about something like a scope or specan displaying audio signals, or disco
lights, or perhaps a loudspeaker. Not an amplifier. Strange term, though.

I was trying to think of a simple but related term for something that
would do for audio signals what a screen does for video signals, i.e.
present them to the viewer/listener in a form appropriate to the type
of signal, by which I meant through loudspeakers in the case of an
audio amplifier. You wouldn't expect such a device to receive radio
signals on its own, and you wouldn't call it a radio set.
