What would *you* like to view on TV?

I would like to watch TV shows without being constantly reminded what
I am trying to watch and being bombarded with on screen adverts for
other shows.

You'll not buy any DVDs, then?

I find that idea much more disturbing than seeing the word "wog" on
usenet.

I'm delighted to hear it. You seem to be a satire-free zone, btw.

Of course you did! That was the whole point! My use of 'wog' was the
equivalent of tapping a ship's biscuit on the wardroom table to
dislodge weevils. They fall out of the biccy, thrashing and gnashing
and run screaming for their mummies in the pious hope that such
reactions convince a disbelieving world that they're not racist when,
of course, they are. We all are.

No, we are NOT all racist in terms of the commonly held meaning of the
word. You are, though.

There's 31 local BBC stations, and there's nowhere near enough room to
transmit them all on their national multiplex even if you removed all the
existing national stations........

Not even if everything except Radio 3 was 32kbps, which you said would
give the same quality we have now? Since they would only be for
occasional use by a tiny minority, they could all be mono, which would
make them 16kbps.

That would be the same quality as the internet commentary supplied by
PremiumTV. To be honest, it's tolerable (when listening through laptop
speakers and when the result is really important).

It will never happen. If one were to remove the sports commentary from
local radio then I would be astonished to find that there was enough
demand for, say, BBC Lancashire in Buckinghamshire for it to be
worthwhile.

Cheers,
Luke

Okay then, change my mention of Sky to Freeview, so there's 30-odd channels
instead of 5 - the point still stands.

How many of them are not just showing old TV shows that were
originally broadcast in the analogue only days? Of those, take out all
the ones that are really just animated shopping catalogues or extended
adverts for premium rate phone quizes, and how many do you have left?

On Freeview? Most of them, by a long chalk. More 4, E4, FilmFour, BBC 4,
News 24...

Cheers,
Luke

Of course he's racist. He's from the generation that was taught to
fear all non-whites from a very early age. They had evil gollywogs in
the Noddy books, songs warning about them, and most TV shows
reinforced those fears. Everyone that age is like that.

Ageism is as bad as racism. What you've written above makes you an evil
bigotted little ****.

Not everything is available on DVD. In fact most of it probably never
will be.

So what do you watch that doesn't have adverts or trails?

Admittedly you do give a caveat, but to suggest that 16 kbps is tolerable is
ridiculous. When you make any comments about audio quality please take into
consideration all those people that are listening on better quality
equipment than the lowest of the low kinds of devices that you seem to be
using - laptop speakers for Internet radio and a DAB portable radio for DAB.

By definition, broadcast channels are meant to be received by a many
thousands of in some case millions of people simultaneously, so when they
decide on what quality level should be used they should aim to provide
sufficient quality for those listening on the best equipment (within
reasonable constraints), because that's the only way to provide adequate
quality for all. That's how it used to be done, apparently.

16 kbps in this broadband day and age is a disgrace. End of.

It will never happen. If one were to remove the sports commentary from
