It's actually perfectly possible, but this point is not relevant to
whether you are able to "record" something or not.

Who doesn't have the choice?

Those who don't live in a Freeview area yet wish to make bitstream
recordings of the main terrestrial channels.

So maybe those people could wait a few years? It's not like it's some
kind of basic human right to be able to make bitstream recordings of
TV. (How did anyone cope before this was possible?)

Alternatively they could examine the other ways in which it is
possible to make such recordings.

If you want to record a TV programme, there are plenty of ways.

No, that isn't possible.

"DVD recording is impossible", says Jomtien. Latest bulletin.

The NHS postcode lottery is much more deserving of this debate than
Sky+ subscription fees.

No, because the postcode lottery is indeed a lottery.

The same is not true of the Sky+. Quite the opposite in fact.

In that case they can get cable or record from DTT.

You aren't excluded from this, unless your phone line is too long

In that case you aren't excluded from DTT. Thanks for playing.

As has already been pointed out, many cannot receive the mainstream

What's that got to do with Sky+?

For those people it is not possible to make a bitstream recording

So make a very acceptable recording over scart instead.

No, that isn't possible.

In your universe, maybe. In the real world I assure you it is entirely
possible.

So basically you are stating that everyone is wrong and your are

No, everyone else is not wrong. For example, I'm not wrong either.

The only people who are wrong are those who think that the Sky+
payment is for some sort of service provision. It is not.

As an aside, it is completely staggering that so many people are
making this mistake.

Do you live in some unusual part of the Welsh valleys where
powerful magnetic mountains render VCRs inoperable?

Do VCRs record a digital signal then?

More than adequately, yes.

They do not record a digital signal at all. They record an analog one.

The same analog one that your TV accepts, whether it's from the Sky box
or the recorder. If the quality's crap perhaps you need a better cable
or recording device.

You do not need to make a bitstream recording to be able to record
something. That is only one way of doing so.

And, indeed, many manufacturers - of both content and equipment - are
trying to restrict or eliminate the capability of doing so.
