I have no other choice of recording digital TV.

Like I said, are you really such a spoilt child that you must be able to
record digital TV? Of course you always have a choice - you alway have a
choice NOT to record digital TV.

I would like to have a 40" HD LCD TV that I cannot afford, I don't have a
choice on the price, but I have a choice NOT to buy one.

So you agree there are benefits to Sky+.
And then question why I need to use it?
I am confused.

Yes, you sure are.

I want to record digitally for the same reasons you do I presume.

However, it seems that whilst digital recording is OK for you, I should be
grateful I have analog cake.

So you do admit to having a choice after all. At last.

I realize that it is not Sky's fault as such. If anyone, the fault lies at
the governments door for allowing Sky to operate in this way.
The government promote digital TV, but seem to forget the fact that 25% of
the population only have access to it via satellite.
If everyone was forced to pay a £10 a month fee to use the record option on
a digital receivers there would be uproar and the government would surely
disallow it. But as it is, they seem to find it acceptable that 25% have no
alternative but to pay it if we want digital recording.

The other option is to wait. The overwhelming majority of that 25% will,
within 6 years or so, get DTT and be able to use whatever recording
technology is available by then.

Well I hope they will be repeating all the programmes I am going to miss in
that 6 years.

No problem there then.... :-)

Not really.
People state the benefits of Sky+
Then turn round and ask why I want it.
Well, I thought that would have been obvious to them, as they stated the
benefits...

If 75% of the population can have one without paying, why can't the
other 25% have one too?

Because life's a bitch. There are many things that many people cannot
have because they can't afford them or they live in the wrong area.
The NHS postcode lottery is much more deserving of this debate than
Sky+ subscription fees.

Truely the NHS postcode lottery is much more deserving of this debate.
However, it is a good comparison.
Why should 25% of the country have to pay £10 a month to record digital TV,
just because of their postcode?

I know your answer, "life's a bitch, and they can have analog".
Must be nice in your "I'm all right Jack world".
Are you a Tory?

Then you should be venting your frustrations at those responsible for
the transmitters, or at NTL/Telewest. Or you could set up your own
satellite broadcasting company.

Do VCRs record a digital signal then?

More than adequately, yes.

No, I don't think there would be. Some people would pay it, if it
suited them, and other people would stop moaning and use a VCR or DVD
recorder or something just as adequate.
