Tom

I can second the praise given the Oppo player. I've got one with my
34" Sony crt HD set and it's marvelous.

I have an Oppo, and have to warn you that it's hit or miss...sometimes
fantastic, sometimes complete garbage. unless you're watching a
fantastically mastered DVD, you'll see various degrees of the macroblocking
bug, which can pull you out of the experience or, worst case, completely
ruin a movie. if you plan on watching the Star Wars or Lord of the Ring
series exclusively, get the Oppo. if you're a Netflix subscriber, avoid it
and any other player that uses the same series Faroudja chipset (1210 iirc).
I bought an Oppo last Spring, but am glad to have a backup dvd player (xbox
360) for the times in which the Oppo fails, which is often. two out of
three of the last batch of Netflix rentals I received (Corpse Bride,
Underworld: Evolution, and King Kong) looked better on my xbox. Corpse
Bride and Underworld were both marred by macroblocking.

The macroblocking problem is an important consideration. I have a Sony
crt HD set and suffer none of the macroblocking. But other
technologies, especially DLP, can really suffer from this Oppo problem.
Take a look at the AVSforum in the DVD Player Standard Definition
section to get more information on the Oppo player and related issues.
Along with info about things like macroblocking, you'll also learn that
Oppo customer service is unparalleled and that they will help you
regardless of your situation. I sent them an email one Sunday
afternoon and received a helpful reply in 10 minutes. This is SOP with
Oppo.

Best of Luck
