Perhaps a very nice way to show off that 1080 resolution screen. http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-1985-x-x-x The specs on that page must be old. Xbox360 was slated to have digital HD support upto 1080 and a HD-DVD drive. Then the HD-DVD was to be an optional extra. The final product gives a composite HDTV output with a max resolution of 720. A current MS site: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/hardware/x...engraphics.htm "All games are capable of running at 576i (that's the resolution of your standard definition TV), 576p, 720p, and 1080i, so no matter what your TV supports, Xbox 360 has you covered." Perhaps capable - no games currently out run higher than 720. I call bull**** on MS. They killed any chance of developers supporting any higher resolutions when they limited disc size to 9gb I've got some 360 games that say they support 1080i on the box, They are lying. |

Perhaps capable - no games currently out run higher than 720. I call bull**** on MS. They killed any chance of developers supporting any higher resolutions when they limited disc size to 9gb That's why they're working on two new formats of DVDs: Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Blu-Ray offers 50GB, whilst HD-DVD offers a somewhat lame 25GB of space. MS are backing HD-DVD but ******* Bill has said that if any add-on drive is made available for 360 then it will be for movies only. A two tier console has never worked for the games market anyway (megaCD, famicom DD, 32X, N64 ram pack, etc) |

They killed any chance of developers supporting any higher resolutions when they limited disc size to 9gb What has that got to do with it? You could write software to take advantage of 1080i in 1mb! I don't think a lack of storage for pre-rendered textures (and 9gb is hardly small), means that it can't support 1080i ! Many developers disagree with you. Most would rather make all the game at a lower res rather then make all 1080 cutscenes real-time. QUOTE "Team Ninja chief Tomonobu Itagaki has expressed concerns over the lack of storage space on the Xbox 360's DVD media. Speaking to Japanese magazine, Famitsu, Itagaki has expressed concerns over the limited capacity DVD offers in the era of High Definition. He feels developers will struggle to fit High Definition pre-rendered sequences onto the 9GB format, being particularly problematic for Japanese developers who prefer to use pre-rendered over real time cut scenes. "The screen resolution for Xbox 360 games will be in high definition, so the pre-rendered movies are going to be pretty large," said Itagaki. "If we encoded the Dead or Alive 4 trailer from E3 in high definition in a quality acceptable to us, it will easily be about 2GB." This would leave around 7BG for game data, but for games relying on pre-rendered scenes to tell and develop the story, multiple DVDs may be required. Itagaki added how shocked he and his team were when they were told the Xbox 360 would use DVDs. "With DOA4, we'll be using the disc's capacity to its full extent. We started development on DOA4 pretty early, and we didn't know what disc format the Xbox 360 was going to adopt. So when we learned about it, we were really knocked out." This is a realistic concern to have as HD video requires large amounts of disc space that the DVD format does not have. Sony, on the other hand, are to use the much larger capacity Blu-Ray discs, so PlayStation 3 developers should not face such problems." QUOTE |

There's too much cash to be earned by selling off frequencies. Vodafone just have to make a few healthy donations and loan guarantees to political parties for the ball to be kept rolling. All that confirms is that any government of the day is crooked, which is true, but they're also too stupid to make anything run on time. I'll bet you the circled dot of the 'i' in Andi Peters' name that it doesn't happen until 2020. If it happens earlier then you get to keep Andi Peters. Think 2020 at the earliest, I'll put a bet on that. How much? Your faith in the government(!) NB I'm old enough to remember decimalisation. On time. And the transfer to 'new money' was completed for most people within the first week instead of the months made available by the government. The professional moaners will do their best to scupper it and there will be well-publicised individuals refusing to buy digital and turning their analogue machines on whilst they phone up the Queen to complain about the bad reception. But most people will get on with it and it will all work. It could work better now if the pictures weren't of substandard quality. And unscrupulous cowboys (not the government) will make a killing. Replace "not" with "and". -- Dom Robinson Gamertag: DVDfever email: dom at dvdfever dot co dot uk /* http://DVDfever.co.uk (editor) /* 1088 DVDs, 320 games, 214 CDs, 108 cinema films, 34 concerts, videos & news /* ssx on tour, rodrigo y gabriela, 24: the game, donald fagen, black (xbox) Join the DVDfever.co.uk forum - http://dvdfever.co.uk/phpbb2 New music charts - http://dvdfever.co.uk/music.shtml |

Dixons helpfully commented "No one can really tell the difference between 700 and 1000 lines" Indeed most people wont be able to see the extra definition unless they sit 2 feet from the box. What you seem to overlook, however, is that you can view a larger picture from the same distance using high definition with the same perception of picture quality over the whole area. Screen sizes have been increasing rapidly recently, and deficiencies in the current picture quality are very evident. What you are overlooking is that you will need a screen 7 feet wide before you will need a HD TV, so even on a 40" TV you are wasting your money. You simply will not be able to see the extra definitioin. Rubbish, utter rubbish. You go into a branch of Comet or Currys and have a look at their HD demos on 42" and even 37" screens. They're awesome. So what? When you get it home you won't be watching demos all the time, you'll be watching TV programmes that don't go anywhere near the strength of a demo. I can't see two cars crashing in Albert Square, one of them stuffed full of multicoloured balls that bounce slowly down the street(!) Actually that might not be a bad idea. That programme could do with some coloured balls bouncing down the street. Course they'd spin it out to about three months. -- AH |
