Default Problems with Sutton Coldfield after about 16:00

Hi Bill,

Today is the first day i've watched it through the day. It's been fine
until 16:10 when some of the street lights came on, it was just the odd
break up. But when all the street lights came on @ about 16:20 it
started to break up a bit more but not as bad as it has been.

As I write its getting worse (16:42), i'm guessing the lights warm up
and is causing more interference. A lot of the street lights are new
outside due to the extensive roadworks. I'm guessing its the new ones
causing the problem as they have only recently been switched on.

It might be worth standing near one when it's just about to come on with an AM
radio tuned to a weak station. That might help confirm if they are chucking
out RF muck. To avoid any funny looks/arrest it might be wise to conceal the
radio, and listen on i-pod style headphones :-)

Anybody got an idea who I call about this? I'm guessing the council
but if there is a way I can bypass the getting passed around stage I
would :-)

Ring your local council and ask for the street lighting engineers, they may or
may not be part of the council (in some areas the service is farmed out)
Certainly my experience of Hampshire's street lighting department is that of a
very helpful and technically clued up bunch.

I should think that the council would be unwilling to acknowledge the
problem because 'it might open the floodgates'.

From my past dealing with the Radio Investigation bods, the first question
will be 'have you got the best possible aerial?' and the second question
will be 'are you within the official coverage area of the service you wish
to receive?'

Bill

Thats exactly what i'm worried about Bill. Which bugs me, because I
obviously went to time and expense to get Freeview here which your not
'supposed' to get according to the postcode lookup. I've been happily
getting it for two years now... ho hum.

However you previously stated your analogue TV reception is also affected, if
so I'd have thought you've definitely got a case to pursue the matter.

Yep thats true, all the neighbours have Sky, as reception is so bad in
this area anyway, but i'm sure there are some people that have noticed
it too. I'll have to ask the neighbours, I guess they are more likely
to do something about it if there is more people behind getting
something done!

Thanks,

Matt
