Hilary is in hospital. She's been there for two weeks now. She picked
up a virus which attacked her lungs and heart. It was pretty scary for
a while but now she's on the mend. It's astonishing that you can
breathe in something that will give one person mild flu symptoms (me)
and cause a serious illness (Hil). Anyway, it looks as if we're over
the worst, but she's going to be convalescing for some time.

Best wishes to her for a speedy recovery.

The washing / drying contraptions can be very confusing I agree. I still
don't have a clue what to put the dial on, and I never know what all the
seperate bubble trays are for. I just fill them all to the brim with suds
and then twist the dial a bit.

Very sad to hear of your recent woes.

Hope your wife, and your wits, make a quick recovery.

They can't ban DVD players that operate from batteries though, so I bought
one.
A fine little gadget, a Philips that cost £150. It's self-contained and
plays DVDs and CDs.
So I had to find out how to get all the soaps onto DVD.

If it's just for one off throwaway stuff Bill, I tend to use bulk packed
data CDs purchased from a local computer fair, which work out at just a few
pence each.
These can give an hour's worth of VHS quality video, which can be quicker
and cheaper to produce than DVD discs, and on a small screen would look
pretty good.

Sorry to hear about your better half, however good news that she is on the
mend.

Apparently afterwards you're supposed to do something with an iron and
ironing board,whatever they are?

I am so sorry to hear that. Amazingly disempowering places aren't they
- I am really glad to hear she is on the mend now.

The hospital has one of these TV systems where the patients have to pay
£40 per week. It's a total rip-off and I'm disgusted, and Hil
wasn't prepared to pay it. Even in extremis she was belligerent.
That's my girl! The hospital has banned patients' own TV sets and
removed the normal ward TVs, allegedly on safety grounds, but we all
know the real reason.

You are right it is disgusting isn't it. Unbelievable that they are
allowed to get away with it. In our local hospitals the televisions
were donated by ex-patients or in memoriam and they were all put on
the tip when moneygrabbing *******s Patientline came along.

Talk about a captive audience - and what is even more disgusting is
that during the day if you aren't watching telly on the things they
are subjecting you to advertising. Disgusting.

Anyway, we've managed to deliver a DVD containing the best of last
night's TV to Hil every day for a fortnight now.

Good on you - I bet it makes all the difference for her.

I hope she is better soon.

Doug

I never bothered with that. I discovered that if you wear clothes for
long enough, the creases caused by washing disappear.

Now you're just being stupid! You hang them over the bannister
straight out of the dryer and that's that. I couldn't even tell you
where the iron is in this house, it hasn't been used since quite some
time ago, and I have never used it and never will.

Give them to a charity shop along with the clothes that needed them. ;-)
