Default CBS non-HD NFL games today

This is some weak-ass crap, opening weekend of the NFL season but CBS has
several games, including the Bengals - Browns game (yeah, yeah, I know).
They are carrying the US Open tennis match in HD though - sure that's the
same! :-(

FOX and ABC/ESPN blow CBS away in this category.

If Fox actually had HD, I'd agree, but most of the cameras at their "HD"
games are just widescreen SD. The CBS games in HD are far, far better
quality than the Fox games.

ABC does manage to show one (and sometimes two) HD sporting events per
week, but ESPN is by far the leader in HD sports. It's not uncommon to
see 2-4 true HD events in one day (if you have both ESPN-HD and ESPN2-HD).

Hey...at least your local CBS affiliate OFFERS High Def....

This **** hole I live in...hickville USA...owner of the station doesn't
think HD will catch on so and he doesn't feel HD OTA is fair...what bs...so
even if I had a antenna on top of my house I still couldn't get HD for
CBS...sucks

Tried to get a waiver so I could get an HD CBS feed from DirectTV, but the
pricks over at the station won't provide me with one...

You evidently have a problem with your local FOX affiliate because
here in the Cincinnati market the FOX HD is outstanding. Looking to be
on par with ESPN HD football broadcasts.

The name of the town is? Or call letters of the CBS affiliate would suffice.

Don't feel bad. I live in Corpus Christi which is decent size city and we
get NBC, ESPN (Not ESPN-2) and TNT. No ABC, Fox, or CBS. Same story as
you, local affiliates don't want to broadcast HD. The way I see it, our
government needs to take immediate action to rectify the situation. These
clowns will never spend a dime until their required by law to do so. Many
of us have bought HD sets after being told by the government the new
standard was just right around the corner, but they keep letting
implementation dates slip further and further. We have no more HD channels
in my city than we had a year ago. Getting really sick of this crap, just
with there was something we could do.

If you are counting on the "government" to force High Definition
broadcasting you will be waiting a long time. The FCC has no
plans to dictate High Definition ONLY broadcasting.

Your local broadcast station will be broadcasting a digital signal,
but it won't have to be High Definition format.

Nope, it's not just the local affiliate...I have NFL Sunday Ticket.
Chicago @ Washington and Tampa Bay @ Minnesota had quite a few non-HD
cameras. Dallas @ San Diego was a little better, but still not great.
New Orleans @ Carolina and New York @ Arizona were much better, with
close to zero SD cameras at those. None of the CBS games had any issues.

Note, too, that a problem with the affilite would result in macroblocking
and other obvious errors. Grass that isn't sharp enough to see individual
blades is purely the problem at the source.

The problem isn't with my local affiliate, they always show HD produced
stuff in HD, it's actually CBS. They responded to a complaint I sent them
with the following:

Snip

"CBS Sports announced today that Sony Electronics will once again sponsor
the high definition (HD) broadcast of three of its top NFL games each Sunday
of the regular-season on the CBS Television Network during the 2005 NFL
season. Sony also will sponsor CBS Sports' HD broadcasts of this season's
AFC playoff games, including the AFC Championship Game on January 22, 2006.
By broadcasting three games each week, CBS anticipates that most American
households will have access to at least one CBS HD NFL game each week."

Snip

3 games??? How frickin weak - I don't care if some of the FOX cameras
aren't full HD (which I have never personally noticed BTW) the quality of
the feed completely blows away SD even OTA. I've sent complaints to my CBS,
CBS Sports, the NFL, my local CBS station, and Sony who is listed as the HD
sponsor for CBS - I'd recommend anyone else who cares about AFC (that just
made me think to send a complaint to the head AFC guy!!) games to do the
same.

As far as I can tell CBS is the only one with an NFL contract who doesn't
show every game in HD and if people can't even count on seeing their NFL
team in HD then it's just another stumbling block to getting the kind of
consumer base we need to really see more content and lower prices.
