720p on this unit. Googling seems to lead me to believe most broadcasts in
HD are 720p. Am I right on any of this?

You can, any broadcasts that are 720p will convert to 1080i.

ABC, ESPN, and Fox are 720p.

Everything else, CBS, NBC, all the movie channels, HDNET, TNT, etc, is
1080i.

Some people seem to have reacted to your original message mentioning only
480p, and didn't appearantly look up the model to realize it is a true 1080i
rear-projection HDTV (with 480p capability, like many CRT-based sets), NOT
an ED plasma panel (about the only type that is 480p-only).

That is the same TV I have loaned from a friend. I found it has 480p or
1080i only. It does not do 720p. I tried to send a 720p signal to it
from my DCT 6412 tuner. But it bands into 3 sections. It was actually
quite crisp however

Does this mean I do not have an HDTV if I can run a 1080i picture on it?
I know 480 is not HD, but what about 1080i?

That is NOT HD. If thats being advertised as HD then its a scam. Run,
don't walk, you won't see any difference over your old one.
