That's two connections with my stepfather now ...
1) He was a prof and I rather think he must have been the one to get hold
of the calendar somehow.
2) For years he had the tennis-player on the downstairs toilet wall.
After he died almost the first thing my mother did was to remove it. She
came out from a 'convenience break' defiantly ripping it up saying: "I can
still remember the trauma of first looking back into the mirror and
thinking: 'My God! My buttocks have dropped!' and for years I've had to
endure looking at hers!"

Nope, it was obvious!

Comapred to watching some Freeview channels on a large plasma/lcd a decent
HD picture is more than obvious!

Sure you can get CRT HDTVs, both direct view and projection.
However, the projection ones are going the way of dinosaurs, and
the larger direct view ones seldom have real, true, pixel-perfect HD
resolution, at least at brightness you would use in a room with any
light on at all.

The current mainstays of HDTV are LCD (both projection, three chips,
and direct view), DLP, various forms of LCOS, and plasma. I suspect that
in smaller sizes CRT will remain popular for quite a while, albeit at
somewhat less than "true" HD resolution for large ones.



But the quality of LCD T.V's are not that good. I know many stores do
not set them up as they should do, but that do not stop the tails on the
end of movment. My TFT computer moneit is very good, it do not leave
tails, if it does, then they are not noticable, but maybe that is
because the screen is only a 17 inch. On a larger screen, they are easy
to see.

I will wait until my own T.V die before I get another one, I am not
going to buy one for the fun of it, after all, I have not got money to
burn.

Well, that certainly was NOT the case in the US: the instant
OTA HD became available, very impressive pictures were available
in stores. Some was from OTA HD, other demos were from hard=drive
based in-store servers.

Mine too:-) We have just added a projector giving a 3m/10ft picture in the
cinema room to go along wight the 46" RPTV in the living room.

The demos that I have seen are not from PCs but from D-VHS playback.

Stores here seem to be mainly sourcing HD material from PCs at present.
