I think the best way to do things is to avoid being one of the first
(and avoid like the plague actually being first, e.g. DAB) and to
avoid being one of the last.

If everybody had that view i.e. avoiding being amongst the first,
nothing would ever happen!

My point, really, was that it's always best to let some other mug make
the mistakes first so that you can avoid making the same mistakes (e.g.
avoid adopting DAB, avoid using 2K subcarriers for DTT).

There's no prizes for being first other than that the government like to
crow about being the most developed country. But in the long term we
lose out by adopting the worst technology variants.

Broadcasters?

Who's paying?

We are/will. DVB-H providing mobile TV is by far the most likely option
for the spectrum freed up.

, Subscription TV isn't that much of a market because
people don't like to pay.

43% of all UK households have pay-TV, and Sky's average revenue per use
is £32 per month.

The system uses a low data rate overnight, or during the day to

When received, the prog is played out at HD.

In that case it is only useful if a small percentage of the
broadcasting is HD, with the rest as SD?

HD = High Definition

What does SD stand for?

Would you believe, Standard Definition?

Well yes, but also serial digital (interface) so 2 standards are technically
SD/SDI (more usually just SDI) and HD/HDI
