Does anyone know what changes this update has made I,ve just updated
mine (first update since about September last year) cannot see any
difference?

From the Humax web site:

1. Stereo bug on playback
2. Loss of HDD corrected
3. Weekly/Daily recording dates displayed correctly
4. Fixed problem with PVR not stopping at correct end time
5. Schedule data is no longer lost when powering OFF (from the rear ON/OFF
swtich) when the unit in Standby mode.
6. Resolved Lip sync Problem

This is set in my menu.

However it appears from reading the manual that you need to have the box in
standby for this to work at the specified automatic download time?

I must admit I thought this would just happen automatically as with my old
sky box and would not need to have the box in stand by.

I obviously missed this update somehow. I didn't actually try to download
'cos I only read about this update today.

I thought the update process was automatic and happened overnight.

Has to be enabled in the menu.

Does anyone have any idea when this update is likely to be resent?

Does it say that explicitly? It's possible that it will download but
only checks whether an update has been downloaded when you bring the box
out of standby. OTOH, perhaps it deliberately avoids auto downloading
when the box is on so that recording isn't affected.

No obvious changes here either. I've yet to discover if it allows
simultaneous record and replay of different programmes, or if it still
stops playback when it drops out of record, but it's still possible to
switch the power off while it's recording, which is a bad sign.

I doubt it will do that, anyway, I will never know now.
My Humax decided to give up working, so I took it back to Currys and had
a refumd.

I have now got a THOMSON DHD4000, not sure what I think of it yet.

Some systems got stuck with version 2.0 and wouldn't go back to 1.00.17,
so they had to re-broadcast with a higher number.

That explains it then

Only if you set it to do so, I do not think it updates over night, but
it will tell you when you switch the box on that there is an update.
