Out of interest, what proportion of ABC1's output is program and what
proportion is "advert"? I've tried to watch it a couple of times and given
up because of the length of "next on ABC1, after that on ABC1, later on
ABC1" adverts that get stuffed in. I'm no fan of "Moonlighting" but I'd
rather than have that than 5 minutes of "later on ABC1"!

I don't think trailers count as adverts, otherwise the BBC would be in
trouble.

Yebbut, in between the ads, you get to watch Felicity Huffman and Helen Hunt!

abc1 has not up to now ever transmitted a single commercial advertisement
(although AIUI that is about to change very soon).

The channel has however transmitted a large number of programme trailers
produced by their in-house promotions department.

I do wish posters to this TV related newsgroup could comprehend the
difference between trailers for a channels' own programmes,
and paid-for advertisements for commercial products or services.
It's hardly rocket science !

Those proportions are scarily accurate....

You really are a sad little troll, and how deluded to think that you
are educating people with your pedantic remarks. What gives you the
right to criticise, are you the official upholder of the english
language, If you really want to do a good turn keep your trite
comments to yourself.

Just ignore Porcella; he never has anything of use or interest to say
and the only time his posts attract any interest is when he picks people
up on their spelling/grammar. Personally, I think it is *sometimes*
justified to point out to people about their spelling/grammar (even if
it's just to wind someone up that you're having an argument with), but
Porcella does it all the time for little reason other than to be an
utter smart-arsed ****.

Here we go again, it have been said that ITV have won the new slot
on Freeview along with channel 4.

I can see ITV4 is going to be as bad as ITV 1,2 and 3 and Ch4 is
thinking about a games channel.
What a waste, these two slots could have been used for something
better. Even expanding ABC1 would have been a better bet.

Just typical, money talks.

ITV3 is dire [...]

No it bloody isn't -- it carries welcome repeats

A repeats channel - joy.

of good programmes,
like Jeeves & Wooster, Foyle's War, and I could go on. It's ITV2
which is the Pure ****e Channel.

That depends on how much you enjoy repeats, no?

Um, that is a good idea, I thought BBC 4 was suppose to do something
like that.

It does a bit of that. I quite fancy a channel to provide it on a
full time basis.

Well, get rid of a couple of the top up T.V channels, and stick one in
there.

Six of one half a dozen of another. ABC1 seems to be a rehashing of the
worst style of US TV station. ITV just seems to be emulating them slightly
less successfully (excluding ITV3 which I think is worth watching from time
to time).

So they are both no good then.
I saw ITV put Airline on yesterday and the one that was on, have been
seen about 6 times.

Then we may as well stay with the five channels then and kick this
digital lot back to where it came from.

If it were not for the fact they may eventaully turn it off, then true!

If people refused to accept the quality and stay with analoyuge, then
there is no way anyone could switch off analouge.

I expected to get something a bit better, after all, if we got to fork
out for a digital box, we should get something for our money.

That is why you hear them bleeting on about "choice" and not "quality".

What choice?

It do not matter which channal you watch, most of them are all the same,
with the same repeats.
