Because as you've been already told, broadcaster must pay a per-broadcast
fee to Dolby for every DD broadcast.

Not to mention that Sky allegedly only have three encoders, which were
taken off the PPV movies and put on Sky Movies 1, 2, & 3.

They may not be being broadcast in DD 5.1 but the source material is
there. Modern films are of course almost universally recorded in DD
multi-channel as are TV programmes like Stargate SG-1 etc.

When someone decides to throw the switch and include the DD feed in
the signal those with suitable receivers (Sky + is one) will instantly
get the benefit.

So why haven't they done it yet, heh?!? SG-1 is definitely not broadcast with DD5.1 - I've just checked. So why
not, if they can?

It costs money to broadcast in DD.
Not only to license the technology but also the playout hardware.
When SKY added DD to SM1,2 and 3 they took the facility from the
system that had been providing DD to certain SBO movies.
That is why I said in an earlier post the lack of DD on SKY1 was probably
an economic decision not to forget less than 10% of SKY's DTH viewers
have SKY+ and it's DD enabled optical output.

And? We all pay a fee to Sky for watching Sky One, don't we?

And of the half dozen people I know with Sky+, none of them (myself
included) have got the Sky+ box plugged into a DD capable amp.

I have. Which is why I'm particularly vexed.

I have sky + and a DD amp but for the amount of films in DD I needn't have
bothered.

Perhaps because Sky don't care to pay for it. Perhaps because the
rights owners prefer to keep the DD back for DVD release. How should I
know? I do know that they could, if they wanted to.

I have the complete set of R1 DVDs of Stargate SG1 and I can assure
you that they are all in anamorphic 16:9 with DD 5.1, from the
beginning. AFAIK on UK TV none are broadcast in DD and only the recent
series are W/S.

Fancy that.
I have a Sky+ (though I have no Sky sub and so have no chance of
getting any DD 5.1 broadcasts) and my box has been connected to my DD
amp since the day it arrived. I always use the digital output for
watching films and music (when I'm not watching a Tivo recording). The
sound is much better than analogue.

Unfortunately my DD amp is in my TV and it only has one digital input,
which is being used by my DVD player.
