Default Freeview question

Hi,
Is there a website that will tell me when Freeview will be available in my
area?
Thanks,
Bob

Try typing your postcode into
http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/coverage.html

Cheers

The best way to see if you can get Freeview is to borrow someone else's box
and try it (you may have to reset the box and download the channels in your
area). I believed the postcode check for over a year before I bought a
Sagem box and tried it. Great reception, although the dtg.org site told me
o couldn't get Freeview at my postcode!

Then ignore what it says and try it anyway! (it's the only way to be sure!)

this is true - it says I can't get many channels via Bilsdale whereas
in fact I can get them all! (with a bit of fiddling!)

If you are served by a relay which is currently analogue then no, I have
enquired and a digital rollout timetable has not been drawn up yet. If
you are served by a main transmitter then, as other posters have said,
the Freeview website gives a very conservative estimate and you should
be able to do better. I found a local aerial installer to be a very
reliable source of information (based on experience) regarding freeview
availability.

Do you mean, "if you are served by a relay which is currently analogue
*only* then no"? Because there are analogue relays which also transmit
digital - like mine at Bristol Ilchester Crescent. You don't *have* to be
receiving from a main tx to get digital.

Non-expert here, but didn't I hear/read somewhere that if you can get
"five" then you can receive Freeview? If you get your signal from a
main transmitter then this is probably the case, I think. Experts feel
free to qualify this (i.e. shoot me down in flames).

Well, at least I have potential. It's a wonderful thing, potential,
because as long as I don't do anything I'll still have it.

That has to be one of the biggest myths in DTT reception.
Yes, I'm sure that there is at least one area where reception of five
*is* a good indicator. But for *most* areas it is rubbish.
For example, I get a perfect digital picture from Heathfield which
does NOT carry analogue five at all.

You will have read that here before - several times in fact. It wasn't right
then either!

It has no bearing whatsoever, which doesn't stop some shops selling Freeview
boxes based on analogue "Five" as sole criteria.
