Ah, so now we need the government to tell us what to watch.
Getting more like a nanny state everyday.

Educating you to a level where you *can* appreciate something is not
telling you *to* appreciate it. It is providing you with the wit to
make the choice rather than ignorantly perceiving that choice has
intrinsic value of itself.

I can appreciate things, but we do not all appreciate the same things,
it be a funny world if we did.

I just do not apprecitate having to pay for something I may not want to use.

I've not been following this thread diligantly due to initial apathy
coupled with an increasing feeling of annoyance.

However, them that know better suggest that I have to disagree...

....I am reliably? informed that BBC4 (along with BBC3) is not giving
'value for money' so these programmes masquerading as 'documentaries'
according to the Telegraph must be of little worth.

Somebody needs to get their act together. BBC4, IMHO, does just what it
says on the tin.

I do not expect to find something appealing on BBC4 every night or even
every week but when I do it is usually **** hot if you'll pardon my
French and amomg other genres the channel has been serving
folk/traditional music particularly well.

BBC4 is the thinking persons BBC2.

Value for money. If all TV was based on this premise there would be
precious little worth watching...

.... of course this depends on your interpretation of 'value'.

As for BBC3 get rid of the DOGS and scrub the News.

Furthermore BBC3 & BBC4 listings are always hidden away with the junk
TV. More food for thought.

It would seem that the best thing to do is scrap BBC3 and CBBC, which

would
give the BBC a 24 hour channel to put ALL their sport on.

That would be OK by me provided they removed all sport from all the other
BBC channels (including news bulletins).

In fact if they did that they could have *two* dedicated sports channels.
