It's nothing to do with tutv is it?

Nothing to do with tutv, I think they want people to watch it, it is
FTA on Freeview initially daytime only. I am hoping that TUTV will
quickly go bankrupt and allow space for more FTA.

Before TUTV was broadcasting that bandwidth was not being used for FTA
services, so TUTV failing does not guarantee anything.

If you subscribe to TUTV please stop.

No.

due to shops not selling boxes for them.

Whatever the reason, it's good. Pay-DTT should never have been allowed
in the first place.

Are you going to make an argument in favour of your assertion?

Not sure I wish them to go under. More free TV just means more
stations repeating the same old programmes again.

Erm, a lot of pay TV stations also just repeat the same old programmes again and
again. The difference is, you get to pay for it AND see adverts at the same
time. At the end of the day, UK Style is still showing the same stuff as UK
Bright Ideas!

Now, had TUTV been four brand new channels rather than pieces of ten satellite
channels, then I may have been interested.

I would be interested to see how ABC1 intends to go 24 hours on Freeview
considering they are sharing a stream with TCM.

TopUp is probably going to fail due to shops not selling boxes for
them. Shops only interested in selling Sky and Freeview digiboxes.
As ONdigi boxes fail they will have less and less subscribers.

Top Up TV may fail because the selection of part-time channels are merely
duplicates of existing channels on Freeview, with the exception of the Discovery
and Turner channels. E4 is a dumping ground for C4 repeats and Friends, and any
'new' show they get appears on C4 the following night anyway. Bloomberg only
provides the same information as the other three news channels would at 9am, and
UK Style and UK Gold merely show the same content that you will find on UK
Bright Ideas (free) and BBC1 on a Saturday night.

Paul.

Disney's new general entertainment channel ABC1 is to launch on September
27th according to a report.
The channel will broadcast daily from 6am until 6pm and plans to eventually
become a 24-hour station. No advertisement slots are to feature during the
first few months of the schedule but will be added at a later date.
John Hardie, the Disney television executive who will oversee the launch,
told Reuters: "In its first phase, ABC1 will champion an underserved British
audience - people who are busy at home during the day".
ABC1 will initially only be available on Freeview though there are plans for
Sky and cable carriage.

Walt Disney Co. said on Wednesday it will launch a version of its ABC
television network in the UK next month, bringing U.S. shows like soap opera
"General Hospital" and offbeat comedy "Sports Night" to Britain.
The ABC1 network will initially be available only on Freeview, a popular
digital television service without subscription fees, though there are plans
to expand onto other pay-TV services.
ABC1 will be broadcast from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. starting Sept. 27, and plans
to eventually expand to a 24-hour schedule.
"In its first phase, ABC1 will champion an underserved British audience --
people who are busy at home during the day," said John Hardie, the Disney
television executive who will oversee the launch.
There will be no advertisements during the first few months of the schedule,
but eventually Disney plans to sell ad time.
Disney expects to reveal the full program line-up at the end of August.
Long-running sit-com "Home Improvement" and drama "Once and Again" will be
on the schedule.

plus

The Walt Disney Company has appointed Barrett Cernis to handle the launch of
its new entertainment channel ABC1.
The channel launches on September 27 and will be broadcast on Freeview,
initially between 6am and 6pm. In the longer term, Disney hopes to broadcast
on cable and Sky Digital and to extend to a 24-hour operation.
The channel will be supported by an above-the-line advertising campaign
using television and outdoor. Media buying and planning will be handled by
Disney's media agency in the UK, Carat.
ABC1 is the company's first non-Disney branded channel to launch outside the
US.
Unlike Disney's other channels in the UK, ABC1 will not be a premium
subscription channel and will instead rely on advertising and sponsorship
for income.
Disney has yet to appoint an advertising sales house for the channel, which
will not take advertising immediately.
John Hardie, senior vice-president and managing director of Walt Disney
branded television for Europe, Middle East and Africa, has pledged to make
the channel "the most advertiser-friendly environment in the country".
The schedule includes UK premieres of US soap General Hospital and sitcom
Sports Night.

As I said to all you people who think TUTV is superb and all we can ever
have is crap shopping channels! Put in the programs, put in the time and
investment, you'll eventually pay for it with advertising revenue. It's good
that Walt Disney recognises this, as well as me, but all you TUTV and $ky
lovers don't.

Probably - I rather doubt that TUTV was just targeted at Disney staff.
