Default Interlacing & DigiTV

After editing DigiTV files in VideoRedo they play well in PowerDVD and when
recorded to DVD.

But as I don't record everything to DVD (but I do edit all the files to get
rid of adverts etc for when I watch them), watching them through my XBOX
using Xbox Media Centre and streaming them from my PC, I've started to
notice that before they were edited they play fine, but after when movement
occurs horizontal lines appear.

Is there any way round this when?

Thanks

Neil

XBMC, although it generates an interlaced output, doesn't pass on interlaced
video in interlaced format. It converts it to progressive and back again.
If the source material is interlaced then you may find turning on the
de-interlace filter in the video output filters section (it has moved around
a bit in various XBMC versions) helps - though it softens non-interlaced
material a bit.

Annoyingly the XBox CAN deliver an interlaced output - as can be seen when
replaying most (but not all - it doesn't cope well with poorly mastered
discs containing interlaced material flagged as progressive - like some BBC
DVDs...) interlaced DVDs within the Xbox standard DVD player. Apparently it
is a problem/feature with mplayer - which provides the core video bits for
XBMC... Pity they can't get it sorted - as the ability to view RGB DVB-T/-S
recordings on XBMC would be great...

You don't the interlace artefacts as badly on your PC as this probably uses
a better de-interlace algorithm?

(Some PC DVD players convert 50i material to 50p - others don't do as well
and convert to 25p - though this requires less processing...)

You havn't some how reversed field order A to field order B during the edit.

I've just tried a trial version and it doesn't change field order and the
edits seem fine.

Right I've found your problem . Yep your right after about 1 minute
horizontal bands appear in movement.
However it isn't a re-coding fault with Videoredo as all the edited files
are ok.

What it appears to be is video playback fault using the VideoReDo codec.

Now in VideoReDo -Tools -Options -Sound/Display Devices
Video Display Options - Deinterlace On = Ticked
Should stop it.

The trouble with mpeg play back on widows systems it relies on third party
vendor codec's. These vendors tend over installing previous ones. To find
out which one is actually being used to play a mpeg file with windows media
player. Then File-Properties and the audio and video codec are shown. Its
possible that XBOX is using that one.

Sounds like the XBOX is using the videoReDo mpeg codec in deinterlaced
state.

A work around would be re install Power DVD (and any updates). This should
hopefully replace default codec with Power DVD's codec.
