Default Dodgy Cards for TopUp TV

I was out at a local market today and bumped into a chap who used to
make a considerable amount of money selling cloned OnDigital cards.

His take on Top Up TV was that, because of the fairly low price that Top
Up was charging for legitimate cards, it wasn't going to be worth
anybody's while selling dodgy ones.

Obviously he's got a degree in economics then - that'll explain why he makes
a living as a crook.

That and the fact that the channel line up doesn't appeal to those who would
want a pirate card.

Hmm. If it'd be viable to sell dodgy cards for £20, I'd have thought that a
one-off cost of £20 and no subscription would be better than a one-off cost
of £20 and a monthly fee of £8...

OK, thief.

As long as you're comfortable with the fact that pirate card sellers belong
to a seedy underworld of crime rings. Your money could be going towards
funding anything from other piracy, and perhaps even drug rackets or
prostitution.

Some of them would be quite happy to kidnap your wife/daughter and sell them
on to Russia for 40p a lick.

Instead they probably should be behind bars, but there are dickheads out
there giving them a living.

That's not quite as bad as "FACT"'s campaign of "Video piracy funds
TERRORISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", so I was going to refrain from comment, then I
re-read your post and had a re-think.

Have you got any proof or even anything as little as circumstantial evidence
that pirate card *sellers* are part of this "seedy underworld of crime
rings"? I suggest that it's not the bloke-in-the-market himself who is the
one producing the cards. What out of producing, selling and using the cards
would be a crime?

Have you got any evidence to contradict the opposing view (one which I don't
necessarily hold, but one which could equally be put forward) that most
pirate card producers are geeks doing it in their spare time with
electronics sprawling all over their bedsit, turning their hand to a little
money with a small investment having found out how to hack their digibox? I
hope that your post was made with all the seriousness of the hypothesis to
which I just referred.

Yo to you too dood

40p's a bit low...

Anyway, realistically television should have always been free, so i hope
this top-up-pish folds over to ensure that one day, everyone shalt hav(eth,
etc) fweeeeeeeeeee digital tv, and we can all be happy.

Incidentily, the legalisation of all drugs would maybe put the price for a
wee bird up from 40p to a few squid...think about it gaffer

They're breaking the law by selling you technology that allows you to steal
the TV service. That's criminal activity. The sellers may have paid a geek
somewhere who has manufactured the cards like you say.

These geeks may be working alone, or part of an underground gang which then
invests the profits into other seedy activities. Some of them are probably
involved in spamming and Internet abuse as well.

I'm not the cyber-police but there's no telling where all this money from
hacking goes to. But I doubt their profits go to Leukaemia Research.

Don't talk ********, they went to fund the beer money of some pikeys.
The only criminal ring around here is the one you're talking out of.
