Sorry Guys,
What about a TiVo, how do they compare with Sky+?
I may as well explore all the options.

On channel 999 on the interactive bit it says on there somewhere that the
box actually receives the updates over the phone line.

If so it is an out-and-out lie. Updates are exclusively performed on
air.

Got it on screen in front of me right now.

"Sky regularly upgrades the software in your sky+ box via your phone line,
allowing us to continuously improve your sky+ experience."

What a load of rubbish! Shame it's not actually an advertisement or we could
complain to the Advertising Standards Authority.

This isn't true!!! It was widely reported last year that Pace were forced
by Sky to agree to selling Sky+ boxes to them at WELL below wholesale cost
- so that Sky could sell them at their chosen price! The return (to Pace)
was a cut of the 10 pounds/month end user fee.

Sky+ sells at whatever price point Sky decides. (As above) this has (at least
at times!) been well below free market cost - thus an effective subsidy!

I have just cancelled my SKY subscription and have returned to my TiVo.

As a user of tivo for a couple of years, Sky+ for 1, now back to my TiVo
with a freeview box.. I am so glad..

I know the Sky+ can dual record, has 5.1 sound and better recording quality.
But I have returned back to tivo for its suggestions, season passes and
reliability in recording.

If you are going to subscribe to sky for a premium channel, then maybe Sky
is better. For me a freeview box with my tivo is the best way to go..

Thanks Chaps,
I will purchase my own box and Install myself, I assume that I just
phone Sky to marry the card to my Sky+ box when installed?
Now, which Sky+ box is the best................here we go again.

Just been looking at ebay as I will probably sell my boxed sky + box after
1yr.

Some with Buy It Now New units for £130, second hand units at £30-£90.

Nowhere will you find any official mention of a subsidy for the Sky+.
