Since BBC mouved to Astra2d, unless you have a dish at least 3mt or 4mt in
Greece we can not get the SKY package anymore, and the funny thing is that
BBC mouved to Astra2d because it cover only UK.
I'm a SKY subscriber and I'll cancel it at the end of the year, because my
2mt dish is non big enough and I have no space for a bigger one.
I understand the reason why BBC did this change, but, at least they could
have choosen a satellite that cover all EU.

No, the whole reason behind changing satellite was so that it *didn't* cover
the whole EU.

No it's not. Why should I pay extra on my TV Licence so the BBC can afford
the rights to transmit their programmes to an international audience?

And, as many of the rights owners have noticed that the BBC's original
claim that the overspill from Astra 2D into Europe is marginal is itself
somewhat fictional, they are quite likely to be now paying far more than
they did to Sky for encryption!!!

This has been an argument that repeats itself a lot.

I can watch Italian, Portugese, Polish, German, Bulgarian, French and
Spanish television FTA - it does not seem to be a problem for them.

Showing British television into Europe would help promote Britain and
British products. What they need to restrict is the American imports,
where they have to pay rights to the evil empire;

Perhaps they should make more BRITISH programmes.

Indeed. If the Commission, the MEPs and the euro civil servants ever
stop lining their pockets long enough to do any work I'm sure this
will be high on the list of things to do. A bigger bunch of
incompetent crooks would be hard to find anywhere, though national EU
governments like France and Italy would be a good place to start
looking.

The only studio that cares about this is ....... Fox.
Sour grapes anyone?

You wouldn't have to. There is no reason why anyone should be paid
more in total than they already are for programmes. The only thing
that needs adjusting is the way the money is collected and
distributed. The cake will always stay the same size, no matter who
bakes it, who cuts it or who eats it.

So why are French digital transmissions of most of their main national
channels encrypted?

All the studios care about it - Fox is just the one that were
mentioned in the biggest story. Disney are known to be concerned, as
are Warner Brothers.
