If you view any of the FTA channels (eg BBC Bews 21, $ky News, BBC three etc on a real satellite receiver, the DOGs are there but the red dots aren't. or are they overlays ? The fact that you can turn off the red dot locally, seems to imply that that, at least, is an overlay, Correct. and that your viewing equipment should be able to turn it off completely... Correct. so perhaps there is a case for harassing equipment suppliers for not having this option available? The equipment suplliers are only permitted to make their receivers according to $ky specs. You are better off lobbying Parliament - or more sensibly the Commission and your MEP - so as Murdoch's restrictive practic es are themselves restricted. A VideoGuard CAM would be a start. |

All the red dots (and other such interactive graphics) are generated internally and overlayed by the Digibox. This is why you never see them on non-Sky boxes. It would be simplicity itself to have an "off" switch for these interactive dots in the digibox software but Sky decide on all digibox functionality and they have no interest in allowing anyone to switch the interactivity off. Until Sky are forced to release VideoGuard CAMs you will probably have to put up with the red dots. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. An act of parliament and/or an EU directive. Or even simply Ofcom and the DCMS pulling their collective finger out, I suppose. This should have happened years ago and there is no valid reason for any not to have happened. The lack of these is down to sheer governmental incompetence, just as is the lack of new FTV cards. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
